Buying used car in CH.

Dear Fellow Forumers,

I will be moving to CH early next year, and have been trying to find out as much about Switzerland as possible.

One thing for sure is that I will want (at some point in the future) to buy a car (we are a family of 2 + 2). I will not be getting a new car (whatís the point?) so I started looking at second hand.

My question is this: are there any options of buying a second hand car from dealers or garages on credit? I would like to make a down payment of say 10% and then pay the rest by instalments? Is something like that possible? If yes, what is the usual interest on that?

If, as someone mentioned in one of the posts, a personal loan is better option, what are the rates and is it possible to get a credit / loan on L permit?

I will be employed permanently, bit as Iíve heard I will most likely get L permit initially (Iím UK citizen though).

Any help much appreciated.

Regards.

Michael.

Re: Buying used car in CH.

You will likely get a B permit if you have a permanent contract. I'm not sure where you got that information from about getting an L permit.

Regarding the car finance yes it's possible to finance a second hand car but it's probably not a very good idea as the dealer wouldn't want to negotiate on price and the finance rates are also non-negotiable.

I think I previously mentioned it's best to get a personal loan in a similar thread and I still stand by that and yes you should be able to get a loan but you may have to wait a month or two for your wages to start getting paid and for the bank to see some sort of cashflow.

Re: Buying used car in CH.

if you own the car 6 months before moving to switzerland you can import it tax free. this gives you scope to make some savings with a bit of forward planning.

buying in switzerland is expensive, so it will probably pay to buy from somewhere else.

Re: Buying used car in CH.

About two months ago the Migros bank was eager to give personal loans for cars,

Car sales website, http://www.car4you.ch/

but do you really need a car? The public transport is excellent. There exists a very good car sharing club,

Re: Buying used car in CH.

Having recently gone through the process of buying a 2nd hand car - I will be happy to share my experiences.
1) The idea is if you are in hurry, and the dealers smell this then you lose the game before it starts.Know that you can live without an immediate purchase http://www.cff.ch for point to point timing .Mobility.ch / patricklocation, enzolocation, avis.ch when you have to (moving/late nights etc)
2) Browse through autoscout24.ch,comparis.ch,roc.ch to get an idea of the ballpark figures for bargaining. Almost all car dealers have a 2nd hand car section opel.ch,emilfrey.ch,peugoet/renault,amag.ch
3) the 2nd hand cars here are usually in great shape- if you are not in hurry you CAN bargain since they want those babies out of their hands. There are also special sale days when amag/emil will promote sales even at 1.9% leasing.

all the best.!

Re: Buying used car in CH.

Cars are very expensive here, it's as if depreciation has been exciled or something.
Use autoscout24 to check out the prices.
This guy will not reduce the price of this, despite it being stood for a year on the forecourt!

That said, I wouldn't be without a car here, especially if you have kids.
