Is it really normal to wait more than 6 months?? Funny thing is i orderd a 2011 model and we're almost at 2012!! Shish! Did anybody had the same exprience as i did?

Re: BMW orders in Geneva..

Don't stress - speak to the dealer and find out what they can do for you - a loan car??

Explain that as it is getting very close to the end of the year you would prefer if they could register it in Jan 2012.

I have a personal question for you. Why are you willing to wait for a standard production line car?

LOL my thoughts exactly, unless you have ticked every single option (so have way more money then sense) or it a special model (do they do an M version??) then why would anyone wait 6 months+ for, lets face it, a run of the mill, boring car

Spot the person who knows s&*"

The X3 was a new model earlier in the year - and was released with a substantial waiting list. This was in part due to a very limited engine choice at launch - basically 2.0d with the 8-gear automatic box.

The problem BMW had with the gearbox is that ZF struggled to ramp up production of the gearbox - not really expecting BMW to drop into the lower models quite so quickly - and with the high production numbers.

Further more - dealers aren't carrying huge stocks at the moment - with the decreasing EUR they were trying to run lean - they got stung really badly with the 320d efficient dynamics - a check on Autoscout 6 months ago revealed just how many hadn't been sold.

The good news is that new engines are now available - which will spread demand on specific components - the new X3 20i will help - and the new 28i (not yet released - but a high output version of the 20i) should see things normalised.

In my experience it is not unusual for a custom spec vehicle to take a minimum of 3 months from ordering to delivery - and that doesn't mean that there are a lot of expensive options - just unusual ones - or odd pairings. For example BMW expect only a few orders for red leather - but demand might have been a lot higher.

Anyway, LiB, Alpinas tend to talk soft and carry a big stick. The Ms shout and and carry big sticks. BMW tradictionally races in white - dating back to the first M-Cars - complete with blue, purple and red stripes. (Blue and Green if you are talking of the Alpina run CSLs). Check out the factory run BMW 320si from 2004-2010 for a good example of this.

BMW chose not to follow the national racing colours (Red=Italy, Blue= France, Green=Britain (no longer great), Silver=Germany)

Re: BMW orders in Geneva..

The fact that BMW will probably reach record all time sales this year, which considering the current economic climate might be somewhat unexpected, production may have delays keeping up. And by the way, the X3s are made in America.

BMW Group achieves record sales for September
159,214 vehicles sold in September, an increase of 11.4% +++ Worldwide sales reach all-time high in third quarter +++ Robertson: Well on course to reach new sales record in 2011 +++

Re: BMW orders in Geneva..

M-Sport package is probably the reason why. Although less so here in Switzerland, there are some markets where it is hugely popular. BMW might have run short on them and made sure they satisified their high demand markets (for the pack).
