| thanks,
I wanted to find out how the commute is for Basel (around Aeschenplatz) during office hours *eg time it takes, traffic etc
Is it better to take the highway or rather enter Basel near Allschwil?
I was also hoping to reduce some carbon emissions by sharing the ride with someone living in/around the area. | |

Right. So it depends mostly on two things - what time you're driving and whether you're prepared to overtake. Actually, scrub that, from Folgensbourg it really won't make much difference. Time to Aeschenplatz will be between 15 (when it's me driving and overtaking, in light traffic) and 20 minutes, if there's a "lot" of traffic. I generally reckon on 25-30 mins and I'm ten minutes the other side of F'bg. Best other routes in would include coming in via Hegenheim, which would normally add 5-10 minutes, but is useful if you know there's a probpem on the motorway.
It's a reasonable speed single carriageway road for about 7km from there, then a new bypass that links straight to the motorway just North of the border crossing, then round the Swiss motorway to the Breite exit, thence 2 minutes to Aeschenplatz.
As for car sharing, that would be a little difficult. My wife and I both go into Basel most working days, say about 70-80% of the time, but our start times are very flexible, varying between around 0800 (rarely) and 0930. And finishing times even more variable. Oh, and we're often only in a 2-seater.
BTW I'm also at Aeschenplatz, so would be happy to meet up for a coffee/drink/chat or whatever.
Any other info I can help with?
