good website for planning rail journey

hi, we have just spent a very expensive weekend in Zurich, (which we loved) but are now penny pinching for our next visit in dec. Can Anyone suggest a good website that we can plan a rail journey. We need to stay around the Zurich region, but prefablely somewhere cheaper?? Any suggestions on this would also be grateful too. We were thinking along the lines of St Gallon or the borders of /switz / litchenstien??

We are landing at Zurich aireport.

Thanks for your help

Planning the rail journey:

http://fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.exe/en?

For International journeys, I depend on:

There is a timetable change on 12.12.2011, so journey planning after that date might be unreliable, for now, until mid November once finalised.

I tend to find that if you post a rough plan, jrspet will be along in a jiffy with a full itinerary, including tips for your destination.

Re: good website for planning rail journey

A good starting point (at least for information on a very general level) and coverning train travel for almost the entire globe is "The man in seat 61".

I've learnt lost of useful things there.

Of course for more specific eqnuiries relating to Switzerland and surrounding countries, the sites jrspet posts above are more immediately useful.
