Re: Bringing here a sport car for summers only

I drove a foreign registered car (UK) here for 8 months after importing it while I sorted out some difficulties concerining the registration, however, I had declared the car to customs, paid the duty and insured it with a Swiss insurer while still on UK plates. The SVKSMT were aware the car was here and that I was driving it and I had no hassles. A little different scenario I know but there are loopholes if you are open with the authorities for genuine cases.

So if it was in your 1st 12 months that isn't a loophole it's the reg's. As you were going through the import process, and were keeping the authorities informed then that would be fine. Just whipping through the border, keeping quiet and failing to declare as you don't see why you should... well that's just something else.

You are not listening, and I really do not care if you get caught or not, and how much it costs, if they impound your car, or whatever.

But I do care very much that your insurance won't be valid. If you are driving here illegally, as a tourist when in fact you are resident, then you cannot be covered by Insurance, and that is pure madness, end of.

I had already lived in CH for 2 years when I purchased the car. When I crossed the border I declared it to customs and they gave me a stamnummer (or somehting like that). I phoned the CH insurance company the next day and all they were interested in was this number and not the registration. Within about 30 days I received a letter from the STVKSMT to make the appointment for the MFK (which it failed becuase lack of CoC certificate). I then had to wait all winter to get an appointment with DTC in Biel for the noise test. I just kept the STVKSMT informed about the delay and they said I could continue to drive the car on the foreign plates while I waited for an appointment.

The issue in this case would be the UK, not CH
