Residency is only required to obtain the card but not to use it.

Re: Difference between Gemeinde Tageskarte and SBB Tageskarte

And if you ask yourself, why would anyone get a normal one then... Gemeinde Tageskarte are limited to a strict contingent. Your community may decide to sell a certain number or not. Supposedly it is there to encourage people to switch from car to train more often.

But really it was started as a community somewhere bought a transferable GA (intended for companies) and rented it out to its residents. SBB then introduced an "official version" of this grey zone, but really they are actually not too happy about it as they consider it too cheap.

Gemeinde Tageskarte requires residency.
This depends on the Canton...

Canton Zug requires residence...Canton Solothurn, for example, does not.

Re: Difference between Gemeinde Tageskarte and SBB Tageskarte

I'd like to remind people that these cards are a community service. They were originally provided to give low earners/families and the elderly of the "Gemeinde the opportunity to travel without blowing their budget.

As there are only so many allocated per day, it pains me to see people buying them up, in fours etc speculatively, then selling them on here when they've decided not to use them. (I'm not talking for profit)

Of course your entitled to them from your community but please, give a little thought to those who really need them.
