Re: What is the likely punishment for getting caught driving with child not in seatbe

Is this a special thread where even the moderators are allowed to be off topic and come up with moralising points instead of answering the question?

Maybe I'll google images of dead children to add to the debate.

No, it's not.

Tom
To take a small child and place them unrestrained in a tin can moving at speed without proper restraint is negligent.

I don't care if adults dont wear seat-belts, it's natural selection at play. But to put a child in that position is irresponsible (hence the reasons for the laws and heavy penalties).

Groan me all you like. It's my opinion and I stand by it.

My parents also had cars without seat-belts (that in Australia were not legally required to have them). They added them before we were allowed to be passengers. It's a small expense for what ultimately could be a very costly decision.

I think flogging is appropriate.

Time to stop flaming the original poster, everyone! (but to share everyone's opinion, you shouldn't be doing this).

Instead of opening another thread... is taking a 7yo, with his raising seat, in the front passenger seat legal? Seat belt on of course! We see people doing, and ocassionally have done it ourselves, but only for very brief trips.

Thanks!

Anyone considered that OP might be playing with all of you? Could OP really be that ignorant?

Yes, perfectly legal. It's marginally safer in the back seats.

Some cars and vans don't have rear seats.

Some older cars don't have seat belts in the rear.

Or the OP has just seen it being done and was just curious........

Why is everybody jumping to conclusions without the full information?

I originally thought the OP was fully-integrated and was going to report a neighbour to the Police.

She was finding out how much the fine was so she could judge how much satisfaction she would get from doing so.

Yes, it's legal (not that Blick is a great source of information, but they did ask an expert: http://www.blick.ch/auto/service/due...rersitz-168658).

If it were my child, I would make sure that the airbag is off and/or put the seat as far back as possible. The airbag has killed children and small adults. The back seat is safer.

Thanks Tom and you for answer. Good to know. Kids love it, you can imagine. We rather throw them on the back of course but ocasionally have to give them such pelasures.

Yes our car automatically detect that, by weight I guess - I can see an 'Airbag off' light on the instrument panel.

Legal or not. It's negligent.
actually, in this video, the child on the seat did not fare much better than the one who did not. Look at the angle of the neck of that kid during the impact.

Not saying that car seat did not help, but even with car seat, a small child may not be completely safe.

Maybe the guy is right. Maybe enough has been said, none of which answered the original question. This is the nearest I can find to an answer.

Two lists. These are German only.`Police - List of Fines.
Shorter version - List of Fines.

Anyone else who can find better lists or more relevant information. please ask a Moderator to reopen the Thread.
