I wish it were so simple to import a car to the US. Curse you, Mercedes Benz.

Re: I imported a car from America, almost...

Have a look at this link, especially the section on "Importing American Vehicles into Switzerland" apologies if you already got this link.

You can import US vehicles that were never sold here, my Mustang was never sold here - I did not import it myself so sorry cannot give advice "from the horses mouth"

also this link (could only find in German)

Re: I imported a car from America, almost...

Likewise, I am at the registration step, though I'm importing a french espace. I should get an Abgas Test this week, but the guy wants to see a load of documents for some reason...anyone know why?

The problem I've run into is with insurance.....my green card expires at end of Jan, but I won't get a registration appointment until mid-feb at the latest!

I have a pregnant wife due in February, so needless to say, its proving more stressful than anticipated.

you should be able to get an appointment sooner. Just call the Strassenverkehrsamt and they should have some cancelled times which can be taken.

I believe you have up to 18 months to bring the stuff in. We discussed this recently on another car thread. Check the customs site.

You know, if you didn't do the paper work correctly it's not their fault that things got messed up & it was not their intent to "rip you off". sigh. I'm glad to hear things are being corrected.
You are right. Except I paid for shipping company to do the customs clearance, and they messed it up. So it is not the customs people's fault but the shipping company people's fault.

Re: I imported a car from America, almost...

I got my vehicle sorted without having a COC. There was never one for my car.
