Speeding in Zürich Stadt

Hi there,

On Sunday morning (two o'clock in the morning) I was driving from Seengen to Zürich and coming from the Höngg area down in Vulkanerstrasse and Aargauerstrasse I drove in 60Km/h and was blinked. I just wondered if this is a 50 zone or 30 zone. I cant seem to figure that out on the internett, so I wondered if any of you here know?

I just hope I will not loose my license

Re: Speeding in Zürich Stadt

What is the name of the street? in Google maps there is Street view so you can go at the beginning of the street and see the sign.

Re: Speeding in Zürich Stadt

I think I was in Vulkanerstrasse or Aargauerstrasse! But I am not sure because I didnt check there and then. the one thing I know is that the railway tracks where on my right side, so it has to be either of these two streets

Please, for the love of god, use the search function, there must be dozens of threads on this exact topic. Also - just don't speed, especially not in town.

Part of Vulkanstrasse is 30, I think. Part of it is 50.

How can you have a 30kph zone? I ride my pushy faster that that. We moving to CH middle of this year and I am not looking forward to this anal anti-speed thing.

Don't. You can get a ticket for that as well.

If you move here you will either get good at not getting caught, slow down, or get a lot of exercise and learn how good the public transportation system is.

Re: Speeding in Zürich Stadt

My thoughts exactly - the land where there are speed cameras every few hundred metres, and draconian penalties.

30k zones are usually near schools, or where children play. One of my colleagues was doing a little over 60 in what he thought was a 50. He got flashed - it was a 30 - and, since he was leaving the country, they didn't take away his license. Just a 5'000CHF fine.

Is this a good time to mention that I used to have friends in the Home County who used to try and get flashed by speed cameras while on their bikes?

oh.....

Re: Speeding in Zürich Stadt

Since your bike doesn't have a number plate, they'd have a tough time tracking you...

When you see where they ask you to go 30, you'll understand why and probably be going 20. By the way, kids like to play with balls hidden behind cars parked on the street in 30 zones. The balls sometimes roll out on the road, closely followed by a kid not looking where he is going. If you do 50, the kid is dead, if you do 30 with your foot half ready on the brake pedal, the kid lives. In the quieter parts of Zurich, you also have to remember that - unless clearly indicated otherwise - cars coming from the right have right of way, such as here, a typical 30 zone with traffic from the right having priority. Here's another 30 zone with a lot of blue zone parking spaces, so people will be manoeuvring in and out, including maybe yourself.

Zurich is "we hate cars" - town, by the way. They issue more parking permits (which you pay for) than there are spaces, most paying parking spaces are for two hours max and if you can find a spot to rent permanently, it will cost you upwards of 150.- per month in less popular areas and starting at 200.- in more central locations.
