Re: How to fight against wrong-parkers?

I am not sure how the carpark is laid out, but is it possible to block the person in without blocking anyone else??

If yes, then block them in, leave a note with a contact number.

When they call, say that you are busy and will there in 30 mins to move the car.

They wont do this again.

cheers

Re: How to fight against wrong-parkers?

You can buy signs with pictures of towing a car away, display one. Then tow them away.

just as a note.. CarIndex doesn't work in a far few cantons ... GE for one

ok, in theory it works in GE but the system tells you you need to send an email to such and such an address where your request will be dealt with during regular office hours and at a fee of, I think, 20Chufs.

I deleted the app. from my phone.
Is that the official thing?

Because on the service des automobiles you can request name and address with the plates number.
Contact them... In some cantons they want a justification, and in other's it's paying... like 20chf...

its linked to that topic:
Blocking personal information from eAutoIndex

i find this approach works quite well.....

scroll to the bottom of the page in the link

i have edited the link as its a bit rude, but i think u can work out the real address.

http://www.youparklikeac**t.com/page/9

i would say the link is NSFW due to language and address

What is wrong with just writing a polite note reminding them that you need the parking space ?

The person probably comes every day, and thinks the space is not used and they are 'getting away with' their behaviour...
As a -1 to writing notes, we didn't have a car for a long time...and there was always the same car parked in our spot (that we paid for). When we decided to buy a car, we had a friend of ours write, very politely and in German, that we would need the spot in two days as we were getting a car and it was our spot. We put the note under the wiper. The following day, the note was gone but the car remained. Next day, same thing. For three more days after that (mind you, we had our car now), nothing. We tried to get our landlord involved and they said they would take care of it but did nothing. We knew the last name (from this website with car registration plates/names) and started looking in the neighborhood for where this person lived. My bf went and rang their bell until they let him in...and a very pregnant women answered the door, went and moved the car. She didn't even question it. She knew. She was just waiting for us to find her.

In the future, I won't hesitate to tow. It is a ridiculous thing but it is also a respect thing. And we tried to be polite and were slapped in the face.

OP, your situation is a bit different. I would try to post something very obvious that says the space is reserved and violators will be towed (along with cones as per Kittster's advice)...see how that works for a few days/a week. If it doesn't work, I would tow. If you pay for the spot, it should not be occupied. full stop.

Pee on the car...

oops sorry wrong thread
What would be the right thread?

Here's an idea on how to address it: look up the owner via that license plate website mentioned and then do the - apparently - Swiss thing: send them an invoice. 100 CHF for instance. You could make a small fortune

Re: How to fight against wrong-parkers?

Like I said, if you tow without there being an explicit sign approved by the Stadtammann saying that you are allowed to do that with unauthorised vehicles, you may end up paying for the pleasure.

Re: How to fight against wrong-parkers?

Towing is not allowed. Other than being responsible for the towing bill, the car owner can probably get back at you as well.
Putting notes under the windscreen is allowed (though don't be abusive).
Otherwise you need to keep records of the offender(s) (date and time / registration plates) and if you have a sufficient number go to the "juge de paix" /"Friedensrichter". In some cantons, the communes will act for you. They are the only ones allowed to issue fines.
The police will not get involved as it's a civil problem, not a criminal one.
From experience, it's a long, laborious process. Trying to catch the person and explaining things is usually the fastest way.
I would also support putting up those folding posts which are under your control.
Whatever you do, don't take the law into your own hands. It will work against you.

Re: How to fight against wrong-parkers?

Buy a large magnet, and bag of large nails.

Unfortunately, this solution will require a 2min effort each departure and arrival.

You leave, stop for a minute and sprinkle large nails over bay.

You return, ask repair man to move offenders car whilst he is changing the wheels, so you can a) collect nails with large magnet, and b) park in YOUR spot.

Soon, all offenders will cease

Re: How to fight against wrong-parkers?

To be honest, if a sign isn't working, blocking them in and leaving your phone number is is probably your best bet. If they are any way abusive to you, take your sweet time coming to help them out. Or better yet, say you're at the airport, off on a 2 week holiday to <make up country here> and you'll sort it out when you get back.

Re: How to fight against wrong-parkers?

Thank's a lot folks. Blocking-in doesn't work because it would also block the road in front of the spot. We're considering to buy a removable cone, and putting up a sign where we'll threat with towing.

Another rather funny tip came to me outside this forum:
Buy a big roll of kitchen plastic, and wrap it all around the car which is parked on your spot .

This works even better with toilet paper, especially on a cold winter day.

If you're feeling brave and don't mind the risk of retribution, here you go:

Waxed dental floss. Wet it, and it will stick to the car. It looks EXACTLY like a key job, and when dry, running you finger over it feels like a deep scratch (should be the opposite, but it does feel like that- especially when you're in a rage about your paint job ). Of course it comes right off with a little water causes zero damage.

Go inside. Piss in cup. Take cup outside, stand next to driver's side door. Empty contents of cup on something. 'The unfortunate consequences of living in an urban environment'.

Re: How to fight against wrong-parkers?

I'm taking notes on all of these... There is a new apartment block just finishing up construction on the corner of my street ... I expect the new tenants will be in in February and my parking spot will be tantalizing close to their front door(s)

Re: How to fight against wrong-parkers?

Since you as a private person can't fine the wrong-parker, my bet would be a "PRIVATANZEIGE".

It takes just 1min. Can be done online (at least in SG).

I just got one of these for parking on private grounds. The owner of the place left me only a note that a "PRIVATANZEIGE" has been submitted to the police. 4 weeks later I got a regular 40CHF fine from the police.

Best and most elegant solution.
