Car scratched on parking

I just found out that somebody scratched my car while parked. On the rear fender, some yellowish paint, 5-6 lines and small bump. It's a plastic metallic fender, the scratches are not very deep, but deep enough not to be able to polish it.

Good thing is, I have full casco. I chose the insurance 3 weeks ago with my insurer and from memory in case like this I don't have to pay anything. I haven't received the bill for the insurance yet.

What shall I do now, take photos of the scratches? It was parked on a paying parking on the street, shall I call the police? I don't really think they can be involved, I don't know who scratched it. Or just to call my insurer and see what can be done?

Any experience to share? Thanks

Re: Car scratched on parking

I believe
- the liability insurance covers the damage you give to other cars
- the kasko covers the damage you give to your car
- 'Parkschaden' option will cover parking damages, as in your situation. I think a lot of people tried to abuse this in the past, so, I'd suggest you take pictures and call the insurance number about how to proceed, in case they require a police to be present.

Well, if they don't believe that someone else did it while parked, this will be covered by kasko, but then again, if you don't have Bonusschutz, this will raise your premiums.

If you have the "Parkschaden" option on your insurance, you will not need to pay a penny.

From the moment the form is signed, you are insured. Even if you havnt received a bill!

Call your insurance claims department, if the damage is minimal, they will send you a claims form and tell you to go to a garage to get it repaired on their cost. If the damage is going to cost a lot to repair, they may send someone to have a look at it. (think normally its over 3000.- when they send someone)

Its a fairly easy and pain free process

IF you have the 'accident de parc' option which covers you for damage done to your car while parked then it's very simple. You call your insurer who will then give you a claim reference number, they will then either arrange for your car to be repaired or you can take it to a garage and get the work done there but they will have to send an assessor to garage to look at the damage (the garage should arrange all that for you). The insuror is billed directly by the garage so you have no hassles. I think you are limited to 2 claims per year.

If you don't have this option it might be worth considering your options. You may have a 'franchise' to pay even with full casco and that coupled with the potential loss of no claims bonus may make it more sensible for you to pay for the repairs yourself (depending on cost of repairs).

Your best bet is to contact your insurance and see what they say. In our case at least it was not necessary to have a police report.

Re: Car scratched on parking

I had "Parkschaden" last year and got it repaired, real easy and simple as I have this covered in my car insurance.
I am now planning to change car insurance as an insurance broker made a real good offer. However, in the offer I need to sign, it states that I had 1 accident to date (1 "Haftpflichtschäden").
Is this a mistake? Or do they count Parkschaden as your own liability?
I was also 'sackjacked' in Paris 3 years ago (window smashed while driving and purse stolen). Or would that potentially be this 1 case?
Apart from these 2 cases, I had no other accident or claim towards the insurance.

Which insurance company are you with? Zurich, for example, means a simple trip to the Helppoint.

You can also go to your garage and they'll have an expert come by to assess and approve the work.

Re: Car scratched on parking

If your car is not brand new or 2 or 3 years old you probably dont have Parkschaden. They only take new cars.

Brasil-il-il has no particular reputation at present
I had one with Nationale Suisse: a dime-sized door ding with no damage to the paint and had absolutely no issues to have the claim settled.
I had to make just two calls: one to the garage to have a cost estimate (CHF 300 as no painting was involved) and another to NS to obtain the claim #. Then off I went to the garage and it took them 45 minutes to fix (including a routine oil change and a visual inspection on the brakes).

Oops just found the post is from 2012. Shoudn't it be flagged by now ?
