| | Re: Car battery, where? How much? | Quote: | | | | | Most of the posts above talk about places in Germany. Any tips for Geneva/neighbouring France?
Yesterday my car refused to start and we had to push-start it. However this morning it did start. Using a battery tester I just bought from Lidl I found that the battery seems to be flaky. At least the alternator seems to be okay. The bad news is that I bought the battery from TCS 3 years and one month ago so the warranty just expired (how convenient). I'm thinking of buying the Landi battery for 109 francs and having it installed at a garage, if they're willing to do that.
My car (Opel Zafira A) doesn't have stop-and-start so it shouldn't be too demanding on the battery. I don't know why this one has lasted such a short time (first one went for 10 years!). | | | | | Changing over a battery on a Zafira A is a piece of cake since the battery is at the front and you just disconnect the leads, take out the old battery and drop in a new one and reconnect the leads.

You might want to see what options there are for your car. The info will be in the owner's manual.
This might save you a trip to Landi. |

Exactly, car batteries have 2 specs that are important. Ah are not the whole story, even though usually big Ah also have quite high CCA as well but it's not a given.

Should be specified on the battery. I also know the dimensions. 100Ah should be more "wife proof" than 84Ah | This user would like to thank JakubB for this useful post:

Migros also stock car batteries: http://www.doitgarden.ch/de/fahrzeug...en.catp#17-360
The nearest they have to your (electrical) requirements is a 95Ah (800A Cold Start Current) @ CHF 319.-

A Disco3 is 100/950 - which with a bit of research is also the same spec as used by all 5-series (BMW). 4-pot petrol 3-series run 63/630, 6-pot 75/700 and diesels 100/950. (Unsurprising when you consider the nature of the ignition).
A "standard" car battery goes as high as 120/1200 IIRC

You need to shop for the right battery size, and then select Ah and CCA.
Yes you could put in whatever would fit, but if you want to be 100% proper, go somewhere similar to here and see the group size of your battery. You can also shop at Amazon, ebay, or a specialised car parts shop.

Not sure they'll have exactly what you're looking for, but the Migros at Val Thoiry (ten minutes or so from CERN on the D884) has a reasonable range of car batteries, and there's a car parts place near the entrance to the car park called Feu Vert that sells them, you could ring and ask if they have the size you need? http://www.feuvert.fr/batterie/r2805.html http://www.feuvert.fr/centres-auto/t...379.html?r=%2F
The Migros is open all day long, Feu Vert is closed between 12-14.
There's also a couple of Carrefour supermarkets out that way. http://www.carrefour.fr/magasin | This user would like to thank Anjela for this useful post:

Has anybody any experience with Feu Vert batteries ? They seem to have their own, reasonably priced brand. Battery for my car costs 139eur in Annemasse (and the same battery in Feu Vert across CERN costs 189 ). But who really produces them? Similar Varta in CH costs 320 CHF. Are AGM batteries worth considering?

Ask yourself whether:
1) Duracell is better than an Aldi Alkali battery?
2) Starting the car regularly is required?
3) Having the car start after a long rest period is important?
I prefer my cars to be reliable which is why when a part needs replacing it is replaced with a quality part - whether that be tyres, battery, brakes etc

I ordered a battery at Reichelt electronics in Germany last year for a fraction of the Swiss price.
