Re: Travelling from Lucerne carnival without a ticket ( SBB hefty fine )

Maybe I have a weird sense of humour, but I got that it was a joke.

Annoying when you've paid for a ticked, same thing happened to me in England around 5 years ago. It was when they started introducing the machines in which you insert your tickets for the gates to open at a station. Coming from a place where a) you could buy the ticket on the train and b) these machines didn't exist, I got caught out twice. The one with the machine really pissed me off because the woman at the station was extremely rude to me and talked to me as if I was a criminal (when in fact I'd chucked my ticket away on the train as we arrived at my destination).

But yeah, my solution was grin and bear the fine, tell her she was highly unprofessional and learn from it! If you can get the fine reduced, please share your experience for the benefit of others.

Maybe they take pity on you, or understand it could happen and reduce the fine. Not likely, but ya never know.

BTW, I couldn't tell you were joking, either. Sorry. But buck up, it is Friday and all

Can I say the conductor was drunk and made a mistake?:P [/QUOTE]

I got that!

A bit like my post in this thread

cheers
SC
I had a similiar experience when I couldnt find my bus ticket from my shopping trip in Migros heading for home and I too, had a fine which was 100 francs and it was only 2.20 francs for the short ride. Oh well, have to be extra careful the next time around. A real expensive lesson to learn, tt`s for sure

Re: Travelling from Lucerne carnival without a ticket ( SBB hefty fine )

I didn't really get the OP's joke either... but not having the same sense of humour won't stop me from posting how I weaseled my way out of a similar situation :

I hadn't actually bought (or in this case stamped) my ticket because I'd not yet bought a new one. I know I know! ... But I used a Mehrfahrtskarte (6 ride ticket) all the time at that stage so I went back to the SBB office, openly armed with the 95 CHFs and the intention to pay the fine. I then asked the lady to charge me the value of the ticket that I skived off on together with the cost of a new Mehrfahrtskarte.

She reduced the fine to 5CHF admin costs, and sold me the new 6 ride-mehrfahrtskarte. I was happy with that. I think it helped that I had been in to the office a lot to buy my tickets so the woman recognised my face and bad German .

Good luck and happy train-ticket-buying

Puddy

Being a frequent rail user, I have seen most Ticket inspectors checking the toilets on their way in / out of the carriage !

For all you lovely women out there with cavernous, bottomless handbags full of useless, unneeded requisites, and/or multi-pocketted attire, you should consider one of these:

travelling-lucerne-carnival-without-ticket-sbb-hefty-fine-ski_pass_holder.jpg

or one of these:

All you have to do is hold it very tightly until the conductor has punched a little hole.

In related news, I got a bollocking from the conductor because i didn't carry my permit. Ticket? Yep 50% discount card? Yep...but got a bollocking anyway.

Unfair, or normal? Wasn't aware I needed to carry the permit?

Do you mean your Auslanderausweis (e.g. L/B/C permit?) What does that have to do with transportation? Your 1/2 card has your ID photo on it anyway...

Warning: Conductors are rarely a happy bunch at Fasnacht time. Too many drunks being stupid can really wear down a conductor's patience.
