SMS bus tickets in Fribourg

Heads up for the many Fribourgeois here
TPF have obviously been listening to the numerous complaints about their $hitty ticket machines (sometimes difficult to understand, often faulty and never giving change). As of 27.2.2012 they have set up an SMS service to buy tickets within Zone 10 (ie urban and suburban area only). You send a short SMS to the number 873 and you will receive an SMS ticket which is billed to your mobile phone operator. Valid for single journey or day passes.
Obvious restrictions apply, ie you must have received a valid ticket confirmation prior to boarding etc.

I wish this technology would be available at more POS and for various products. In Sweden I believe, you were able to purchase items from vending machines with your mobile phone roughly 10 years ago....I think this is the future of retail sales, as we tend to be more and more on the move with fancier equipment and spend less time catering to our basic needs.

Re: SMS bus tickets in Fribourg

Apparently it also applies to pre-paid mobiles, providing there is sufficient credit.
In all cases, will only work using Swiss mobile operators.

Translated quote:

As for costs, the cost of the ticket SMS is the fee schedule in effect Frimobil. It is directly charged to the phone bill or prepaid card provided that the remaining credit is sufficient. Sending an SMS is free. This service is only available with the Swiss mobile operators.
