Anyone living close to Uster? Help me view a car

Dear EF friends,

is there anyone living close to Auto Discount Uster that would be kind enough to spend 10 minutes to have a look at a car I'm interested in?

Only if it's not too much hassle, as I understand it's a big favour to ask...

Well, as a starter, if the car is really what they say it is

Then, have a quick look around if it seems to have more km than declared, if there are scratches or bumps that I can't see on the low res pictures... this sort of stuff

I think the cars at Auto discount uster are the least of your problems there. See Auto Discount Uster - RANT for more info.

Yeah, I was having a look at that thread earlier.

I'm very sceptical about this dealer. However my wife (who found the AD and is pushing to go ahead) has a few colleagues which had a fantastic experience with them. So I decided to give it a try anyway.

Of course I'll post the entire experience on EF for future reference once done

Re: Anyone living close to Uster? Help me view a car

If you do end up buying a at please make sure you have a log book and service book. We bought a car from there and the log book wasn't in there. When we asked for it they said they'd order it for us. We are still waiting for it .... It's been nearly a year.

We have since sold the car but it was a nightmare without service history.

You've been warned :-)

Re: Anyone living close to Uster? Help me view a car

I nearly bought a car from them but body swerved it in the end.

Almost all their cars are sourced in Eastern Europe hence they offer such attractive windscreen prices. The spec' of the brand new car I was looking at was quite different from the Swiss model in terms of the options not fitted or not, even though it had the same name, AND the sales guy said it was the exactly the same. A car comes with the manufacturers warranty that applies to the country of origin, not sale, so the model I was interested in only had 1 year not 3 as sold here, and it didn't have the 3 years free servicing either. So in reality the CHF 3k windscreen saving wasn't really... as I was getting waaay less bang for my buck. They also offered a poorer finance rate almost 1% higher than a main dealer and a crappy trade in value, so I would have financed about the same, but at the end of the contract actually paid more than buying from a Swiss dealer, and had a car that would in all probability have a poorer resale value due to the poorer spec'.

I also found the salesmen all looked a bit.... spivvy, and the English speaking guy was fairly rude and looked more suited to a club door than anything else.

What I did do was take the print out of the car ad' and showed it to the local main dealer, and simply said I can buy this for 3k less than yours... What are you going to do? They guy went away, came back and matched the ADU sale price and threw in some winter boots, and the trade in price for my old car was 50% higher. So I ended up buying from a Swiss main dealer for the same price as ADU, financing 3k less at a better % rate, I have a lower residual at the end of the lease than the deal with ADU, got full Swiss spec' buggy with the 3 years manufactures warranty and servicing, and pay 68 CHF per month less on the finance... happy days

I'm not saying they are hooky, or you shouldn't buy there, just my experience could have cost me dear if I had, so my tip would be:
1 - Make sure that the windscreen price is for a car with the same features/option as the Swissy car of the same name, and don't take the salesman's word for it!
2 - That the warranty/service packs are the same as available here.
3 - The leasing rate, is comparable with main agent.
4 - Factor in the Euro bonus offers that seem to be all over the place
5 - It's also a hike from you, have you tried to use the ADU buggy to lever a price match locally?

Where ever you buy, good luck, as driving a new car you are happy with, and knowing you got a good deal is great

Thanks very much for sharing your experience and for your precious advices.

Price is not that much lower compared to what I found around Switzerland. It's just the mileage is so low, like one third of the same car for the same price sold elsewhere.

That's what makes me suspicious, so I asked Jaro to especially check for that.

Bargaining the price with a local dealer having the ADU comparison sounds like a great idea! I will definitely try it!

I agree with Papa's approach above. I' prefer to buy from a authorized dealer or volume importer. Dealers these days are ready to deal as at least the more pricey cars are not really flying off their floors. Compare pricing on autoscout24.ch, car4you.ch etc, figure out what the fair price is for the car you want and get the authorized dealer to match it or come closer. Financing will more than likely be less and than there is the piece of mind of having the warranty and a legit outfit to go to in case of issues.

Will still check the car out for you...although the club bouncer dude selling cars sounds a bit shady

nah...shorter and smaller than me and quite friendly. Car checked out, CH bought from Emil Frey in Lugano, all services done by same, due for service now and to be done once purchased. Very clean and maintained, no scratches etc. Very good condition. It was waiting to be cleaned/prepped in the back of the dealership without the pricing info displayed.

Let us know if it works out.
