Pay for car to be driven from UK to Switzerland?

All.

Anyone paid for their car to be driven from Uk back to Switzerland? I can't drive it back in the short term. Wondered if there are services that do this?

Cheers?

I would love to drive it down for you but only if it is with the wheel where it is supposed to be...on the left

Re: Pay for car to be driven from UK to Switzerland?

a) where in UK is the car? (London? or do I have to get a train to somewhere else?)

b) what kind of car? (is it fun to drive? or is it a Ford Fiesta?)

c) when do you need this done? (does it possibly coincide with my holiday plans?)

d) how much were you thinking of paying? (is it worth my time?)

Lol. It's a passat 2l 140bhp sport with cruise, dsg, auto lights/wipers. It's full of baby stuff though in oxfordshire.

I was really wondering of shipping services for this sort of thing?

Re: Pay for car to be driven from UK to Switzerland?

Hi you will probably need to get the headlights changed and other small items fixed for Switzerland probably before you bring it.. headlights for sure have to be change because of the beams shining to the wrong side of the road.. I know people here that had to have theirs changed in order to drive to England on vacation. I am saying this more as a question and am not completely sure.. also who ever drives it here will need proper papers, insurance and permission to drive it for you, maybe some kind of import papers also ? just questions...

Re: Pay for car to be driven from UK to Switzerland?

I can collect it in Oxfordshire and deliver it to Weil am Rhein, then you import it:
what do you think? I live here so I cannot import it.

Costs (Easyjet +Easyrail +ferry +fuel +autobahn charges), plus Fr 300,-- for me.

I would drive via Dover, Dunkirk, Brussels, Luxembourg, Mulhouse, Basel.

You write it is a company car, has it Swiss or GB registration?

Pretty much wrong on all those points.

There is a lot of info available if you search the forum. I used it myself when I brought a car over a couple of years ago.

Just to be clear it's not importing it will go back. It will be insured as a named driver temporarily.

Re: Pay for car to be driven from UK to Switzerland?

I had someone in mind but unfortunately if it's a Brit registered car only someone with a UK or certain european licence can bring it in and get named on the insurance, a Swiss licence holder won't work.

Can you not get a friend from the UK to come visit you and drive it over - you could then pay for their flight home? They will get a free holiday and you will get your car?

Re: Pay for car to be driven from UK to Switzerland?

Feel free to drop me a line - I'm going back and forth quite a lot and have driven two cars back here in the last month (one mine, on a 13.30, one my wife's now imported on Swiss plates on a 13.20).

If I'd known earlier I could even have proposed a deal as I'm in Oxfordshire all next week without a car to run around in!

Actually my wife bought a new car and we did a personal export. I've been wondering whether to start up a business advising people on that and doing the driving. We saved about 18,000 CHF on the Swiss price buying the car in the UK (mid-range BMW).

Re: Pay for car to be driven from UK to Switzerland?

Why cant a person holding a Swiss driving licence do It? I have never had any problems being added on to a car's insurance as a CH licnce holder provided it was explained to them that I had swapped it for a UK one!

It is VERY difficult for a Swiss licence holder to be added to a UK policy, most will not do so. As a general rule a Swiss licence holder is not allowed to drive a foreign registered car belonging to someone else. This is especially a no no when in Switzerland.

Re: Pay for car to be driven from UK to Switzerland?

My sons drive Uk registered cars belonging to family members when in the UK and have driven french registered ones into Switzerland (they have swiss licences). They're not added to other peoples policies, they're covered to drive other cars anywhere in europe as long as it's just occasionally (ie; they don't use those cars as a 'permanent' car).
Problems could arise though if you're intending to pay someone to drive your car as I think that requires different insurance and might involve other taxes as well.

They are covered how on people's policies? With say a UK policy that is any driver? I'm sorry to say that even 'tho the cover is perhaps there in theory in the event of a claim they may find it wasn't ESPECIALLY in Switzerland as it is not strictly legal and they could find themselves in a world of hurt in a control

Re: Pay for car to be driven from UK to Switzerland?

They have their own individual swiss policies (Winterthur) and have had them for over ten years, and are also members of the TCS with ETI cards and legal protection.
The question of driving 'foreign' cars was raised with the insurance company right at the beginning as as a family we tend to swap cars and have cars registered in three countries (Switzerland, France and England).
They have been 'controlled' several times, never had problems.

I believe it is illegal to drive a car that you're being paid to drive (for any purpose) without additional insurance.
