'city-ticket' warning and a nice conductor

I often see posts about mean ticket-checkers and big fines and wanted to share my positive experience and hopefully help people avoid a similar mistake.

I sometimes comute from Zurich - Lausanne or Geneve and usually buy a day pass (68 CHF) to go there and back and use the local transit. This time I was staying multiple days so instead got a return ticket (69 CHF) and for convenience added the city ticket option (+4.4 CHF) for the metro. I didn't realize this changes the validity of the return ticket from 10 days to 1 day.

After a long few days I was finally headed home and the conductor came and said 'oh, you have kind of a special ticket' and explained it was expired. I thought for sure I was in for a fine and another ticket. However, he was SUPER NICE, explained my ticket, suggested other options, and let me go with a warning. Really lucky and everything worked out.

Morale of the story is to be careful with the city ticket.
