Can one bring bicycle inside a metro/bus in Lausanne?

Hello,

it is known that Lausanne is hilly. I am wondering if one can bring bike into bus or metro with the monthly or yearly pass in Lausanne? If yes then the cycling option maybe viable as one can cycle down and let the bus or metro to bring the bicycle uphill. Any advice to the Lausanne transport page (http://www.t-l.ch) would be appreciated (am still learning French). Thanks!

Yes. See this page.

Now, you should really practice your French... but this is the gist.

Buses and the metro have stickers by the door which is most suitable for getting on:

Bus - middle or rear door, if there is space
M1 - 2 doors per train, if there is space
M2 - door nearest Ouchy, if there is space. Max 3-4 bikes or, when crowds are expected, bikes are not allowed.

You have to remain next to the bike to ensure its security and stability.

Mornings and evenings have the most human traffic, when it's nearly impossible to travel with your bike. Cyclists should be aware of these rules.

Now, this page tells you about the ticketing arrangements.

Full price for bike accompanied by adult
Half price for bike accompanied by adult with half card or GA, or for 6-16 yr olds.
Free for folding bikes in their bag and kids' bikes

I've been controlled while travelling with my bike, hadn't bought a ticket for it and wasn't pulled up for it. Looks as though I should have bought a ticket, after all.

Re: Can one bring bicycle inside a metro/bus in Lausanne?

Thanks! That was exactly I was looking for! And the most important sentence is the remark:

"The GA cycling and bike day pass are not recognized."

It means there is no way you can pay a lump sum fees and transport the bike with a monthly pass or similar at anytime... Unless one folds the bike. Looks like the idea to bike to train statiion daily and back with bicycle in metro is to be abandoned...
