help needed with a lease quote ( for a car )

Hi
i'm not sure if this is the right section of the forum for posting this, so the admins are free to move it if necessary.

BTW, I'm in the process of buying a car and I'm trying to go for the best option for that. Where I'm from, it's common to have a car loan from a bank but here i was offered only a car lease and I want to make sure I get no surprises.

Basically I want to pay a big % of the final price up front and do a lease for the remaining %.
The lease quote I got is
Duration 36 months for 13'300.00
Monthly rates
35x 384.40 = 13'454.00
Balloon payment at the end, without VAT
1'000.00

so at the end I would be paying 1154 chf in interests etc.. (8% of the total value spread across 3 years).

Do you think is it a good offer or could I get a better one?
any advice is really appreciated!

You want a normal bank loan then.

Leases are designed so you are basically just paying off the depreciation. If you are worried about future costs - reduce the number of months.

when I have asked my bank if theey do car loan they said NO, they are not "allowed" (non sure what the guy meant exactly)
perhaps I should have asked for a loan w/o saying what it is for???

Correct - examples can be found on all the major banks' websites. However, the loan will be unsecured (IE you can sell the car), which provides you with flexibility, but the bank with no security. Hence the rate will be higher.

it is higher all right! this is the outcome from Comparis

http://it.comparis.ch/banken/privatk...00&duration=36

it seems that the leasing is not a bad option giving the fact that the car would be new and 3 years is not a long period

thanks

8% intrest sounds high. What is the rate they are giving you? When we were looking the rates where 2.9-4.9% Mostly they were 3.9%. These rates are much better than the bank rates. The only problem is that you are obliged to keep full insurance coverage throughout the lease where you can get only partial insurance on a car with a bank loan.

i believe the rates you mention are on a yearly basis, I am counting 8% at the end of the whole period, so i'm not sure we can compare the 2 figures

I'm not sure I understand what you mean here...is the full insurance on the car? sorry for the stupid question but i'm not familiar yet with this concept of leasing...

Oh. Well then it would seem to fall right in the range I quoted then.

Yes. Full insurance on the car. If you lease the car you need "casco complete" on the replacement value of the car. If you pay cash or get a bank loan you can go with "casco partial" if you want. On the lease you don't have a choice.
