Repairing a small dent

Was getting my car serviced the other day and asked them to quote me for repairing this small dent..

Anyone want to hazard a guess what the quote was?

Re: Repairing a small dent

All you need to fix that (according to you tube) is a can of air duster and a hair dryer.

Heat up with hair dryer for a few minutes, then (holding can UPSIDE DOWN) spray around the edge and inside the dent with the air duster.

Probably about 1000 chf's for the quote?

I guess they plan to replace the panel for that price!

Personally, I wouldn't bother to fix it even at CHF 300.

Re: Repairing a small dent

2500 does sound a bit like a turkish! There are independents that could heat and pull that and blow it over....

Was it parking damage?

WARNING SWEEPING GENERALISATION BELOW:

Looks like a typical thing a female driver would do while pulling out from a gated drive way / garage or turning left and not noticing a bollard...

Re: Repairing a small dent

Scandalous!
They must be actually telling you that they have no time to repair such a minor cosmetic damage.
Or they actually think you are an imbecile or just released from Euromillions winners camp. Or both.

Forget the repair. It looks fine.

Re: Repairing a small dent

I agree with the sentiment of just not bothering to repair it, unless I could get it done for a few hundred. And I'm extremely happy that they didn't just go ahead and fix it, and present me with the bill afterwards...

It looks like it is not just a dent but also some paint damage. Has the VW delaer a body shop/Carosserie ? If not he will just pick one from here www.vsci.ch and laugh about the extra 1000.- he just earned w/o real work.

What is your excess/deductible on your insurance? If it is low then why not use your insurance to fix it, it is what you pay your insurance for.

Re: Repairing a small dent

Dents on a crease are VERY difficult to do. I had a Dentmaster guy in the UK just about manage to push out one from under the shoulder of a Volvo Estate. He said if it had been any higher he wouldn't be able to do it.

2,500chf sounds like a new door has been quoted for!!

Try a small local Carossiere for a reasonable price

That only works if you have full coverage.

Re: Repairing a small dent

I once had a small dent and scratches on my Honda jazz bumper.
It cost me 250chf at a local carosserie repair shop. They resprayed it like new.
I paid it myself.

Re: Repairing a small dent

If you claim on your insurance for every tiny ding your car gets, after a couple of years you won't be able to get any insurance at all.

Life is too short, when you come to part exchange the garage will point it out, if it was fixed they would say it's a bad colour, you should have bought Black / Red / Blue ....

Of course if they change the panel & have to weld something you have an 'unfall auto', fat better to use some filler & blow it over IMHO.

Re: Repairing a small dent

my excess is 1000.- and I'm fairly sure I could get it repaired for less than that..

I'm guessing that any claim also wipes out your "no claims" bonus, so the real cost is much more?
