bringing car under 15.30 and then importing

Hi everybody,

I am planning to go to St. Gallen University to get my Masters and thinking about bringing my car there. However, it will be only about 3 months old when I am crossing the border for the first time. I know that I can and should fill 15.30 form and use it for up to a year, but the question is, when the time is up, will I be able to reexport it and then import tax-free(as by that time it will be older than 6 months)?

I'd say no, because the rule is that you need to own the car for more than 6 months before moving to Switzerland, not that the car itself needs to be more than 6 months old.

And the moment of moving to SUI is the first entrance stamp and time I drive the car with 15.30 with foreign plates doesn't qualify for the time I own the car(these 6 months)? Quite sad..(

In my case the customs guys checked the date when I acquired the car on the invoice and in car papers and the date I entered Switzerland in my residence permit.

Were you in the same situation? BTW, what other car documents do they need apart from the invoice(the one in russian won't do, right?=))?

Why don't you post here so you can help everyone who might have the same question.

The rule is that you must have owned the car 6 months at the time you first enter the country. If you know different we would love to know.
