| | Re: Man with Van | Quote: | | | | | Check out Europa Car service which gives a van with driver @ 140 CHF for 5 hours & 150 Kms. Phone 0444052305.
I will give review after using this weekend. | | | | | Are you sure the 140 CHF includes the driver? I was quoted approximately 150 CHF for a VW T5 Hochraumkasten without a driver for 5 hours and 150 km by the Europcar in Hagenholzstrasse. You might want to call and confirm. 140 doesn't seem enough to cover even 5 hours of a drivers time.

End of month being the shifting weekend, all car agencies were booked including europcar. I contacted "Milan - THE man with a van" who offered services @ 120 CHF/Hr which I negotiated to 90 CHF / hour.
Even though Milan does not know English, it got compensated by his eagerness to help.

can I add here a recommendation for 'priority home services'.
Contact person is Nathan - www.priorityhomeservices.com
079 437 6256
in a nutshell - good sized van, happy to help with lifting, but also keen to do installations of lights, putting Ikea together, installation of satellite, and any other 'handyman' or 'maintenance' jobs.
He's an expat (Brit). We arranged for him to meet us at Ikea after we'd had time to clear all our purchases and line them up at the checkout - and then he packed the van and delivered it to our apartment, and helped unpack and put our light fittings in at the same time...
He was also handy to have to arrange our pickups from various forum members who had stuff for us, and also meet at the brocki's to pick up our second hand stuff...
Phone for a quote - give your approximate number of hours and make sure you check what the 'call out' fee will be (depends on the arrangement)
- it's standard for removals to charge you from their origin point... you can pay cash (and probably get a more flexible price) or he can organise an invoice...

Our employer told us that 60chf would be an amateur rate for removals, and for 85 you'd expect a professional. Also, for us it was the convenience of having someone we could organise/negotiate with in English, and who was happy to wherever/whenever to suit our timetable...
Personally, I don't mind paying a bit more for less stress - and to know it's going to be done right the first time...also, legitimate registered business, and could produce an invoice if we wanted to pay direct to bank account, or cash if that suited us better...
I'm sure Nathan's pretty flexible - I basically told him what we wanted done, and he did us a quote via email, and we went from there...

Hi Folks,
I have a self drive transit van for hire in zürich , it's a year old low roof 260 ( takes exactly 2 x euro pallets..) you would have to take care of your own insurance....
I have a music equipment rental service here , so we use this kinda thing ..
I also have a van the same as the whit one in the photo on the other post... 1 x long wheel base high roof merc and 1 x short wheelbase version of the same...
We also do UK runs but now we are kinda off season (( rock tours are over untill Nov )) so not much going on
Cheers

We used Gregory (as recommended by COKid) to move around 15 boxes from Zurich Airport Freight section to Menzingen (canton Zug), and what a great guy!! Punctual, helpful, cheerful, careful while being fast, and the best prices! We would recommend him and will also certainly use him again.

I too would suggest Gregory for moving. I just hired him to move and really recommend him. The price is very fair considering labor, van maintenance, insurance for company and gas. I had my household items all packed up for the most part but he had some boxes and crates to use. He has all the necessary things to make the move easy, dollys, moving pads, ropes, and bungies to secure things....nothing was broken. He is a hard worker and doesn't waste time.
His number is : 079 695 21 43

| | Re: Man with Van | Quote: | | | | | Ok review time: His name is MILAN: Wangled him down to 100CHF an hour for him and his mate to do all the carrying. Great stuff... secured everything really professionally in the van, took a great deal of care with my furniture. 100% on time and reliable. Will use him again without hesitation!! | | | | | Just wanted to give our review on this guy. Unfortunately for us, it isn't a glowing one like hugh_abu's
It started well enough...called him Friday to ask if he was available to move a sofa from Uster to Schlieren area the following day (Saturday). We agreed to his rate of 100CHF/hr and he told us to meet him at Uster station from 4:00-4:30pm.
Yesterday (day of appointment), we arrive a few mins early just in case. SMS him at 4pm to advise him we were there and he replied to just wait for him. 4:40pm no van, no SMS from him. We again SMS him to follow-up on ETA and he SMS-ed back saying he's on his way and we should just wait. By 5:00pm we call him this time and this guy says he was just leaving Zurich (what the...?!?!)...no explanation/excuses whatsoever...adding insult to injury this guy even asks my hubby to buy him a loaf of bread at the nearby COOP while we waited for him ( the nerve!!!)...it seems he was more concerned about getting his groceries done before the supermarket closes-- professionalism at its finest .
Since we already committed to picking up the sofa, we got him his bread and waited. He finally arrived 5:35pm...no apologies or thank you, instead mumbles about wishing he got meat as well ( !!!). Then he says that since he had to drive from Zurich to Uster, we had to pay him from the time he started driving to our pick-up point. Discussion erupts as my husband explains that since his services are for transport within Zurich and surrounding areas, and he told us to meet him at Uster then the understanding is his services begin when we meet...also, how do we know where he had come from (how much time he took) driving to Uster?!?
After wasting more time arguing ...and since there seemed to be no reasoning with him... AND since we were already on a delayed appointment to get the sofa, we finally agreed to his fee. I of course insisted my husband not give him the bread for free...petty for sure , but he really didn't deserve anything more.
That's our unfortunate experience with this guy |

He gives special discounts for English FOrum users, so be sure to mention that. If I remember right, its CHF 90 per hour for him alone, or CHF 130 if someone helps, but dont hold him to my failing memory.

I moved apartments this weekend and contacted Nathan from Priority Home Services. He came on short notice and was very helpful. He has a good sized transit van to move things. He is a Brit expat so great to be able to talk to him in English and be understood! I also discovered that he does other handy jobs around the house so I will definitely be calling him back. Would highly recommend him for any moving or handy man jobs.
