Just booked Milan for 8 January (CHF 120 per hour for 2 people) he seemed pretty professional on the phone, was willing to speak in english but german was far better.

Selman's number no longer seems to work.

Will post a review of Milan's service once done.
So moved this weekend- Milan let me know before that he was going to be away but arranged for one of his colleagues (Willi) to do the work with another helper. We had quite a lot of bulky stuff so it took two trips from Rüschlikon- Kappel am Albis. They hauled the stuff efficiently out of the old place and into the new place and secured everything securely in the van. Also happily took an old dishwasher to the recycling centre in between.

Overall was happy with the service.

Re: Man with Van

If we'd all pitch in, we could have our very own EF-Van....with unlimited usage.

Re: Man with Van

I used Gregory for twice yesterday and today. I rang him up today at 8:30pm when the staff in Ikea told me there was NO taxi service after 8pm! He arrived at 9pm on time and helped carry all my big heavy stuff to my apartment. CHF 120 for 1.5 hour work!

He speaks very good english, funny, friendly, helpful, careful....he is GREAT!

Call him if you need help:
Gregory (Tel: 079 695 2143)

Re: Man with Van

Just to follow up and offer feedback on my previous request for said man with van, I called Nathan at Priority Home Services, and booked him and his van a couple of days in advance @ CHF85 per hour. I can say in my opinion it was excellent value compared to other firms; cheaper, included assistance with loading and unloading, and on time. Despite my hangover and regular dry-heaves, Nathan was very friendly, and even threw in a few free jokes to make all the lifting a bit more bearable

I'd recommend Prority Home Services to anyone requiring help moving apartments (the van is not huge so suits smaller loads though), or general pick-up/drop-off work.

Re: Man with Van

I justed wanted to give my experience with Xeni.

There are 2 guys who have a cleaning business (Xeni - German speaker, and Fehmi - speaks ok English) They both respond to the email address guenstigereinigung@hotmail.com. If you write in English Fehmi will write you back.

phone numbers are
Xeni 076 460 9355
Fehmi 079 446 2127

They do cleaning but also will do moving and trash removal and Fehmi is a handyman. They charge a flat rate of 120 per hour for 2 guys and a truck or 80 per hour for 1 guy and a truck. you can also barter with them for a flat rate or specific tasks and they will come by and see your stuff give you a rate and set a date for the move or removal. I used them already for trash removal and we came to a flat rate (260CHF) including the cost of disposal at the dump and they came by why I was at work and collected everything out of my storage unit. it was great. I will also use them for moving this weekend at 120 per hour (we estimated 1.5 hours). They were both nice and friendly. Fehmi lives in Schlieren. And they work on weekends and evenings and do not mind to come by and give you a quote if you are in the Zurich area.

Re: Man with Van

Hi all

Just wanted to add another glowing review for Gregory.

We used him on Monday for moving within Zurich. We had around 30 boxes (some massive, some small), two big suitcases and two small ones (a girl's gotta have her shoes ) and a drawing board.

Took about two hours, mainly because our old apartment is up five sets of spiral stairs with no elevator which made it especially knackering for all of us, but it was all done in one trip.

Gregory's van is huge - he said it is enough for a three room apartment including the furniture.

Very helpful, friendly and generally nice guy. Speaks English very well - here's his number again 079 695 2143.

Ok review time:

His name is MILAN:

Wangled him down to 100CHF an hour for him and his mate to do all the carrying.

Great stuff... secured everything really professionally in the van, took a great deal of care with my furniture. 100% on time and reliable.

Will use him again without hesitation!!

The van is BIG and has plenty of space, I'd say about this size.

Update:

We had Milan and his mate move us down from Eglisau to Oerlikon last week.
Feb 2010, following the recommendation here on EC:

Because of a cancellation by a friend, we could only give Milan one day's notice and they did a fantastic job, working two solid days without any complaints in difficult circumstances.
They turned up precisely on time on both days. Nothing got lost and nothing damaged. Nothing too much trouble. Very cheerful.
Would recommend them again to anyone without hesitation.
Their van is IVECO, rather like a long wheelbase Merc Sprinter. Takes a LOT.

Re: Milan:

Forgot to mention that in Feb 2010 Milan is still charging CHF120 per hour for himself and his mate and the van.

Also, here is his telno again, to save you digging back through the thread:
079-4014058

He told us he never uses email.

I moved on the weekend with the help of a guy by the name of Emil Chamo, who wasn't bad. He helped me take everything apart, put it all together for me and secured it all very nicely in the van. I think it ended up costing me 280 francs for 3 hours, and he came and picked me and my things up and then did stops at all the places I had to pick furniture up from.
He also does a service at Ikea where you just have to look up on the internet what you want, and he'll go and pick it up (and pay for it) for 90CHF and come and help you put it together (not sure whether that costs more or not), which is a bit cheaper than what they charge you at Ikea.
His number is 079 302 73 42 and he speaks quite good English (he's Israeli).
He was really keen for business and willing to negotiate a deal (and was really keen for me to tell other expats about his services).
I read all the 4 pages to find a recommendation in Basel area. Found this as the only one. Will this guy move Furnitures from Basel to Uster?

Any idea how much (roughly) it would cost to move furnitures from Basel to Zurich (Uster)?

I am afraid I didn't get to avail of his services. First I called him, his answering machine said email him. I emailed him promptly asking for a quote, but did not get a response for over a day. Then I called him again, this time he picked up but said he had seen my email, was too busy to even talk to me, and he would get back to me in an hour. Two days on, still no response That would have been a free joke for me if I had continued to wait for him and waste my weekend.

I then got in touch with these guys. Fehmi doesn't offer free jokes but does his job real quick and well, plus he speaks excellent English. Today I moved from Zug to Ruti 45 kms, he charged just 160 chf (note that he had to come from Zurich, that's when the clock starts) and of course he did most of the loading/unloading. For comparison when I moved just one table last year from Zurich to Zug 35 kms, I had paid close to 250 chf but hadn't checked out this thread and didn't know the price range then.

One of the few times I found customer service exceeding my expectations in Swissland

Re: Man with Van

All
Here is someone I used yesterday Herr Hanspeter Sterli, reliable and does not need negotiation. Only problem is he speaks german and so long as you speak basic german, it is fine.
He charges 44chf per hour and 44cents for each kilometer i.e. between place you are picking up your stuff and back to your home. This rate includes helping you moving the furniture and I had really heavy solid wood ones and he didn't even complain!
Contact details: 0795765435

I called Gregory since someone recommended him strongly. He was charging 80chf per hour BUT starting from his home! And you have to pay him until he reaches home!!!! In total, it would cost about 240chf.

Imagine the big savings! Am I glad I got Herr Sterli!

Re: Man with Van

I just used the contact information for the 'highly recommended' Gregory and he told me that he is now set up with a company and the website is:
http://www.uni-umzuege.ch/

The website is in German and he said they are working on putting more photos and things on there - but for now, the details are there and they are covered for insurance and all the other important stuff...

Re: Man with Van

Just wanted add one more recommendataion for Gregory. I used Gregory for about 7 hours just before easter to move stuff within Zurich from Glattbrugg to Thalwil.

He speaks very good english and came around at a very short notice to move a lot of furniture and boxes. On the morning of the move we decided to go to Ikea and buy some furniture and he was very flexible to come and pick up our new furniture from Ikea and then come to our flat in Glattbrug to load the rest of boxes and then bring it to the 2nd Floor in Thalwil.

I only used one of his guys for 5 hours and I was helping him load and 5 hours for 1 person he charged me 80 CHF / hour and then when we had to move stuff into the new flat he arranged for 1 more person to come and help us and for 2 people he charge me 130 CHF / hour.

Top Guy...very helpful and has special rates for forum users.

Re: Man with Van

Hi all One more glowing reference for Gregory to the add to the pile!! We used him yesterday to transport 50 boxes from Zug to a Stuttgart shipping company and he was nothing less than brilliant! He was extremely helpful, cheerful and friendly and speaks perfect English. I accompanied him on the trip in case there were problems at the German border - a good thing actually, as there potentially would have been. He was excellent company as well and I cannot recommend him highly enough. His website is http://www.uni-umzuege.ch/ and he does give good rates to EF users. Nicola
