Man with Van

I have seen a few requests for a man with a van.

This guy has helped me before and can be hired. He can arrange van transport and able bodies to help carry and move. He is based in Zurich.

Basically, a man with a van.

Re: Man with Van

My reviews of men and their vens.

1. Selman - 0786441927 (Zurich) - didn't answer his phone so no review.

2.
Man with a van, CHF 60 an hour, all in. No idea of his name: 079 401 4058 (Zurich city and area) - Wangled him down to 100CHF an hour for him and his mate to do all the carrying.

3.Herr Kenny ' a man with a van' known in Switzerland as a Bruna -Waren taxi (079 223 80 10) - Costs 180 an hour and doesn't provide a buddy to help carry.
The following 2 users would like to thank hugh_abu for this useful post:

Re: Man with Van

Ok review time:

His name is MILAN:

Wangled him down to 100CHF an hour for him and his mate to do all the carrying.

Great stuff... secured everything really professionally in the van, took a great deal of care with my furniture. 100% on time and reliable.

Will use him again without hesitation!!

The van is BIG and has plenty of space, I'd say about this size.

Just wanted to give our review on this guy. Unfortunately for us, it isn't a glowing one like hugh_abu's

It started well enough...called him Friday to ask if he was available to move a sofa from Uster to Schlieren area the following day (Saturday). We agreed to his rate of 100CHF/hr and he told us to meet him at Uster station from 4:00-4:30pm.

Yesterday (day of appointment), we arrive a few mins early just in case. SMS him at 4pm to advise him we were there and he replied to just wait for him. 4:40pm no van, no SMS from him. We again SMS him to follow-up on ETA and he SMS-ed back saying he's on his way and we should just wait. By 5:00pm we call him this time and this guy says he was just leaving Zurich (what the...?!?!)...no explanation/excuses whatsoever...adding insult to injury this guy even asks my hubby to buy him a loaf of bread at the nearby COOP while we waited for him ( the nerve!!!)...it seems he was more concerned about getting his groceries done before the supermarket closes-- professionalism at its finest .

Since we already committed to picking up the sofa, we got him his bread and waited. He finally arrived 5:35pm...no apologies or thank you, instead mumbles about wishing he got meat as well (!!!). Then he says that since he had to drive from Zurich to Uster, we had to pay him from the time he started driving to our pick-up point. Discussion erupts as my husband explains that since his services are for transport within Zurich and surrounding areas, and he told us to meet him at Uster then the understanding is his services begin when we meet...also, how do we know where he had come from (how much time he took) driving to Uster?!?

After wasting more time arguing ...and since there seemed to be no reasoning with him... AND since we were already on a delayed appointment to get the sofa, we finally agreed to his fee. I of course insisted my husband not give him the bread for free...petty for sure , but he really didn't deserve anything more.

That's our unfortunate experience with this guy

Re: Man with Van

Just booked Milan for 8 January (CHF 120 per hour for 2 people) he seemed pretty professional on the phone, was willing to speak in english but german was far better.

Selman's number no longer seems to work.

Will post a review of Milan's service once done.

Update:

We had Milan and his mate move us down from Eglisau to Oerlikon last week.
Feb 2010, following the recommendation here on EC:

Because of a cancellation by a friend, we could only give Milan one day's notice and they did a fantastic job, working two solid days without any complaints in difficult circumstances.
They turned up precisely on time on both days. Nothing got lost and nothing damaged. Nothing too much trouble. Very cheerful.
Would recommend them again to anyone without hesitation.
Their van is IVECO, rather like a long wheelbase Merc Sprinter. Takes a LOT.

Re: Milan:

Forgot to mention that in Feb 2010 Milan is still charging CHF120 per hour for himself and his mate and the van.

Also, here is his telno again, to save you digging back through the thread:
079-4014058

He told us he never uses email.

I have just arranged for Selman to come later this evening at short notice for a 30 minute job across Zürich. He seemed nice on the phone.

Re: Man with Van

I highly recommend Gregory:

079 695 21 43

He is Swiss, his English is very good, and he's a good guy. Very reasonable rates, and he owns his own truck. He is very professional, being careful with the inexpensive second-hand stuff I was transporting! In my case, I helped with the moving and he came alone. I suspect he could arrange help depending on what you need.

Re: Man with Van

So, we ended up using "Herr Kenny ' a man with a van'"... he was grumpy on the phone, he was grumpy when he turned up and we had 4 boxes, 2 suitcases and 2 rucksacks when I'd only said "4 boxes, 2 suitcases" on the phone, he was grumpy during the 10 minute journey from Cramerstrasse to Konradstrasse and he was grumpy when he just handed us our things from the back of the van without helping to load/unload any further.

I'm not sure why he was so grumpy when he made 100 CHF for exactly 15 minutes work.

Re: Man with Van

Today I got my rattan sofa set picked up from Bern to Zurich. I highly recommend Allag's Last Minute Transport. It is situated in Fällenden Zürich
Mr Rabie [phone number removed] is very reliable. I had to get the sofa set picked up on Friday at 16.00 hours in Bern and be bought back to Zurich. Ask for a quote on Wed, he return a quote, reasonable prices and was ready to get the sofa to me by Friday. I was sceptical at first as it was such a quick response, but he picked up on time in Bern and delivered to my appartment. He has a big van. Very nice, not complicated and efficient. That is what I like about Mr Rabie. He speaks english and german. By the way, I was suppose to pay cash to the seller and ask Mr Rabie if he could first pay the buyer and I shall give him the money when he delivers. He agreed to do that for me. Wow !! that is really trust and good customer service.

Just to follow up and offer feedback on my previous request for said man with van, I called Nathan at Priority Home Services, and booked him and his van a couple of days in advance @ CHF85 per hour. I can say in my opinion it was excellent value compared to other firms; cheaper, included assistance with loading and unloading, and on time. Despite my hangover and regular dry-heaves, Nathan was very friendly, and even threw in a few free jokes to make all the lifting a bit more bearable

I'd recommend Prority Home Services to anyone requiring help moving apartments (the van is not huge so suits smaller loads though), or general pick-up/drop-off work.

Dan
I am afraid I didn't get to avail of his services. First I called him, his answering machine said email him. I emailed him promptly asking for a quote, but did not get a response for over a day. Then I called him again, this time he picked up but said he had seen my email, was too busy to even talk to me, and he would get back to me in an hour. Two days on, still no response That would have been a free joke for me if I had continued to wait for him and waste my weekend.

I justed wanted to give my experience with Xeni.

There are 2 guys who have a cleaning business (Xeni - German speaker, and Fehmi - speaks ok English) They both respond to the email address guenstigereinigung@hotmail.com. If you write in English Fehmi will write you back.

phone numbers are
Xeni 076 460 9355
Fehmi 079 446 2127

They do cleaning but also will do moving and trash removal and Fehmi is a handyman. They charge a flat rate of 120 per hour for 2 guys and a truck or 80 per hour for 1 guy and a truck. you can also barter with them for a flat rate or specific tasks and they will come by and see your stuff give you a rate and set a date for the move or removal. I used them already for trash removal and we came to a flat rate (260CHF) including the cost of disposal at the dump and they came by why I was at work and collected everything out of my storage unit. it was great. I will also use them for moving this weekend at 120 per hour (we estimated 1.5 hours). They were both nice and friendly. Fehmi lives in Schlieren. And they work on weekends and evenings and do not mind to come by and give you a quote if you are in the Zurich area.
I then got in touch with these guys. Fehmi doesn't offer free jokes but does his job real quick and well, plus he speaks excellent English. Today I moved from Zug to Ruti 45 kms, he charged just 160 chf (note that he had to come from Zurich, that's when the clock starts) and of course he did most of the loading/unloading. For comparison when I moved just one table last year from Zurich to Zug 35 kms, I had paid close to 250 chf but hadn't checked out this thread and didn't know the price range then.

One of the few times I found customer service exceeding my expectations in Swissland

Re: Man with Van

Yes, he can speak English. My experience with Herr Kenny wasn't all too great either. We agreed something on the phone and then he raised the prices on spot because he *misunderstood* what I had said. Though, he did help me with loading and unloading. But, for the price I piad, I would have expected loading and unloading help.

Next time I'll just make multiple trips using mobility's Vito. That should work out to be cheaper.
