...... until, on a routine control or another stop, the police discover that you have speed camera warning software (which is illegal here) and give you an even bigger fine.
Not really. I have a TomTom and it tells me the speed limit where I am. Thus, if I stick to this, I don't have to worry about camera locations (the function for which is not enabled on my device). Unless the speed limit is incorrectly marked up on the TomTom... happens occasionally, but that's another problem...

Trying to keep below the limits here was the last straw that lead me to stop driving here...The limits simply do not match the roads or modern vehicle capabilities. I simply refused to be a continuous victim.

No, they match the abilities (or lack of them) of the average driver.

How do you do that? Mine tells me "function not allowed in this country". And besides, you would only know the permanent ones, not the mobile ones.

You learn the locations for the mobile ones after a while

Re: I'm taking a speeding beatdown

Should you live near a main road and experience noise pollution you'd know how antisocial speeding can be. Consideration is in short supply and those moaning about speed limits can HTFU or get out.

Sorry, HTFU is a bit strong. 'Grow Up' is more appropriate.

Before I get myself into bigger trouble, I need...
1) to slow down some - 1st and 3rd were on the highways, and the second was 56 in in a 50.

2) help identifying where these camera are..

has anyone published a camera list?
Sadly this forum always seems to produce more of a backlash of anti-speeders than people willing to accept that speeding tickets are not necessarily a sign of reckless disregard for others' safety, hence the groans you got (and doubtless so will I for pointing it out). But some useful advice may also be forthcoming

Your second question has been answered, I see, with advise to JFGI, as it has been discussed before, but I'll add my experiences here anyway. There are various options, including downloading the camera list from a site like SCDB (10Eu per year subscription) or loading a GPS app such as CanSam(free, dedicated app for speed cameras) or Sygic (not free after trial period, but cheap enough, and a very good SatNav system in itself) onto your smartphone.

I currently have both options, given that built-in car Nav systems won't allow camera wornings, but I'm tending towards getting rid of the TomTom and using just the phone app(s), which also allow (if you choose to be 3g connected) realtime updates and reporting of temporary cameras. Good, they is

Sadly this forum ...
Good drivers don't speed.

All drivers are likely to speed at some point, but to dismiss the point and spirit of the law wouldn't be tolerated in other areas. Would you take the same stance regarding drink driving, if you think you know better than the law?

Good drivers don't speed.

To be fair, if I'm in an area I don't know, there are times when I just don't know the speed limit and there aren't any signs to tell me. Now that's frustrating, especially if I happen to get a speeding ticket.

Also, there's a speed camera near my house that is very profitable since it's located on a hill in a short 50 km stretch on an otherwise 80 km road. Gemein.

Gemein.
This seems to be the essence of the pro speeding fans' argument "The World is out to Get Me", as UpTheHatters succinctly put it: victims.

If there are no signs indicating the speed limit, I'd say you'd have a good chance of contesting the fine. 'If' being the operative word. Best get OJ's lawyer on your side, though, if you're not paying attention behind the wheel.

I think you do some people here an injustice by calling them "pro speeders". Nobody is condoning active and intentional flouting of the traffic laws. Many are parents, and don't want to see anyone speeding past their kids school any more than you do.

However, some have presented perfectly rational cases for when a ticket was perhaps overkill; doing 85 in an 80 (intentionally or by accident) in clear conditions with no hazards is hardly the start of the apocalypse afterall.

Ask at your nearest Kantonal Polizei station - they will have a list.
You don't even need to venture down to the police station, a fair few also list them online. Basel Police (as per the OP's location) for example:

http://www.polizei.bs.ch/verkehr/achtung_radar.htm

Local radio also have been known to report the location of any mobile ones.

There's a vocal few who take great umbrage at having to follow the rules eh? It wouldn't wash in other areas.

Speeds are regulated in Switzerland even if there are no signs:

50 km/h in towns
80 km/h outside of towns
100 km/h on "motor roads" (Autostrassen)
120 km/h on motorways
