Re: I'm taking a speeding beatdown

A Policeman told me this:

"It doesn't matter how fast you drive. As long as you're moving that's all that matters"

Take Zurich to Basel. 80km.
If you very optimistically break the law and drive at 140kmh for 40 km of that route isof. 120kmh, how much time will you actually save??

I leave you do the mathematics :-)
But I make it less than 3 minutes...so don't bother, it's not worth it.

I honestly did not see a posting for 50 I was doing 59 thought it was a 60...oh well lesson learned...

But if I can get software on my GPS then I will
So now you'll drive with your eyes watching the GPS for speed limits, iso watching outside for possible obstacles.

THAT is reassuring.

But perhaps we'll have to agree to disagree.
Yup, because you completely missed my point

At what point, over the limit, is it no longer safe if we make the assumption that doing 59 in a 50 is OK?

I mean, if 59 is OK, then what about 60? What about 61? What about 62? etc. etc.

Point is, the government has to draw a line in the sand. You may not agree to it, but that line is there for all to see and is pretty unambiguous. I don't like it, but I live with it... like I said... most of the time.

If it helps you feel better, my TomTom is closer to the road than my car speedo, so my eyes actually don't need to travel as far away from the road to see my speed, and in one glance it informs me not only of my speed, but also the speed limit that I am in.

I never exceed the speed limit

- as it's almost impossible to text accurately at fast speeds ..... let alone access FB.

That's easy enough - leave your appt. without any ID; head wrapped in a black headscarf, quoting from the Koran; drinking from a bottle of beer, not concealed in a brown paper bag; and cross the street where there is no signal.
Nah, that's about as boring as being a rebel for driving 4km over the speed limit in Switzerland. I approach being a rebel in the same way I think about grand theft larceny; if I'm going to steal money, I'm going to steal so much and do it so big that even if I wind up in prison, they'll be making movies about the job.

Re: I'm taking a speeding beatdown

I was doing about 120km/h in Glarus yesterday morning. I admit it was a little too fast, so I maneuvered a couple of tight turns as best I could before rolling out onto the runway heading for a nice smooth landing.

Never been "blitzed" in the air (yet).

Yep.... best to avoid building cumulonimbus - otherwise the updraught will have you doing 120 vertically .... and then you'll get blitzed and donnered.

[next time - in the absence of GPS speed warning - an extra notch of flaps, a bit of side-slipping, and feathering the prop(s) over the threshold may help]

Actually a prop in flat pitch is much more effective as a speedbrake.

Yes - I was just remarking that there are general speed limits in place. The other limits you mentioned are signed. If you can't remember the speed you're supposed to be driving, then perhaps.... I'd better get back to work.
About "The other limits you mentioned are signed"

Actually all the limits are signed; often poorly but the signs are there.
What is your point about "there are general speed limits in place"?
You cannot rely on your location (in town, out of town, etc.) to tell you what the speed limit is; you have to read the signs!

watch the speedo for ONE information that doesn't need to be numerical to be processed (eg you should be able to tell your speed by the angle of the needle without actually reading it).

Watch the GPS for TWO numerical figures that need to be interpreted.

There have been reams of paperwork in the aviation field trying to explain why perfectly operational planes have been flown into the ground despite having them fancy flatscreen displays. Read a couple of them, you'll see the difference between instinctive and interpretative instrument reading and the processing time needed for both.

Once your license has been taken away, you won't have to worry about speeding for awhile. You'll have bigger problems.

- Use cruise control on the motorways
- If you're passing too much, ask yourself why
- When people show you the "bird", the "finger" or shaking their head, use it as a warning that your driving behavior is dangerous
- Leave earlier so you aren't under pressure
- Don't use driving as an aggression release
- Buy a slower car
Actually, I was not passing people and always going with the flow. The day this happened my friend and my wife were with me. I asked him about it and he thought we were with traffic the entire time as we went on a road trip. So, we could only presume everyone was dinged at the same time.

Both of the tickets were the same day, and the 3rd was two weeks prior for 20 chf

Plenty of modern vehicles do not have analog speedometers anymore!
