| | Police just stopped me for illegal left turn
AAArghh the Police just stopped me for illegal left turn.
It was very quiet on the road.
He told me he couldn't give me a fine himself and would send a report to the Prefecture who would give me my punishment.
Does this mean it's going to be expensive?
Will I have to report it to my insurance company?

Did you enter one way street or crossed a white solid line?

I once was fined 100chf on the spot for using a closed road.
Crossing white line will cost additional. Not sure how much. Maybe even points?
Don't worry too much, it has already happened.
Good luck! |

Hence, letting people doing it would defeat the purpose of putting a white line in the first place. | The following 2 users would like to thank Faltrad for this useful post:

I got done some time back for crossing a solid white line.
CHF240 for crossing the line
CHF260 for the pleasure of having an awkward English/German conversation with Zurich's finest
CHF20 for postage/incidentals/stupidity tax.
All in a CHF520 mistake that I will never make again. | This user would like to thank Nelly_Da_Hefferlump for this useful post:

and they complain about the fees of university here. Much more bang for buck, I think Quite an expensive lesson, these driving rules. I have become paranoid of accidentally slipping through a yellow or crossing the solid white lines... BTW, the dashed ones you can cross, just not the solid ones...

[QUOTE=HAT;1590591]Why does an illegal traffic move have to be reported to insurance?
And why is it ok to do it on a quiet road?
1) I don't know if it does that's why I asked the question.
I reason that if you break the rules of the road it could be assumed that you are a more dangerous driver than the obedient ones. Therefore the risk of accident is higher than before you were caught then and put up the premium. But I don't know I'm no actuary actually.
2) I didn't say it was ok on a quiet road. I reason that if the risk of causing an accident is high then the crime is worse than if the risk of causing an accident is zero. |

Good luck! | | | | | In the UK if you get a fine/prosecution for a traffic offence you have to tell your insurance company, they then use that as an excuse to hike up your insurance premium for the next 5 years
Not looked into it but I would have thought that insurance companies worldwide base their premiums on your driving record otherwise the habitual drink driver/speeder/illegal left turner would have the same premium as the careful law/speed limit abiding drivers that the rest of us are |
