Whats the correct rule how to drive through a yellow mark pedestrian pavement ?

Hi all,

Please some one could advise me whats the correct procedure of driving through this yellow marked lines for pedestrians in a 30 zone.

This road is narrow and hence forth is it allowed to drive over through the yellow markings as shown in the picture mentioned below.

Or is it only allowed to cut and drive over through the yellow pavement line as mentioned in the picture only while another vehicle is coming in the opposite direction?

Please advise.

Marking such as this are know an dummy islands or chevons designed so traffic can move over when necessary such as this narrow street, cyclist would use the chevon so you would naturally stay off it until you need to move over on to it. Each country has different rules, but it's all about avoiding an accident hence no hard sholder physical restriction

Rules in most countries state that a solid line must not be crossed, but a dotted one may be if required. So if that holds true you need to keep out of it. Usually refers to white lines though, so not sure if it applies to these yellow ones too.

But if you're learning to drive here don't you have a copy of the highway code to refer to? I'm sure it would clarify this for you, then you could educate the rest of us.

Mr.Ace,Thank you for your reply .I have been instructed to drive over these lines all the way in this road, but i have the same doubt you had mentioned. How can i drive over a solid yellow line all the way unless and until i had to move on to it when an opposite vehicle approaches.I don't have a high way code but i have all the latest CD,s Driving booklets, doesn't mention about the same. The photo of the road i had posted is the one going down from Höng to Am Wasser. The road mentioned is bäulistrasse.

Re: Whats the correct rule how to drive through a yellow mark pedestrian pavement ?

A solid yellow line may not be crossed, ever! In the example above, that is the pavement for walkers. (Exceptions, see later posts)

If there is a broken yellow line on the right side, that is for cyclists, and motorists may cross it when necessary, when another car is approaching for instance, and the extra space is needed when passing.

However, if there is a cyclist or a walker nearby, then you may not cross the broken line! If a car is approaching you must completely stop if necessary!

If you look at the road in the picture ,u have have to cross the yellow line as there is no space for another car to pass from the opposite side.So obviously we have to cross the yellow line even though its not dotted.So...im really confused what to do on my driving test.

Re: Whats the correct rule how to drive through a yellow mark pedestrian pavement ?

Maybe your driving books are from Germany or France?

Maybe you don't believe me, and maybe you could go to a driving school and ask an instructor?

Note on the left side is a solid yellow line, which means no stopping either.

This is not correct. This is a traffic violation in any US state. You cross a solid line on a road in the US and let a cop see you...

Its not that i don't believe your opinion. An instructor has advised me to do so.
The reason why i had to write this here is because of that.I need to find out if this is correct or not.

Well, everyone was crossing them to pull into parking lots in NY, CT, and FL last month!

So, from my husband who was a mechanic with all possible driving licences completed and now police officer has confirmed... you drive to the left of the yellow line and when an oncoming car comes and assuming you don't run over a pedestrian, you may drive in the yellow lined area.

No problem, glad to help He just checked in his book to be certain and he explained to me these exist in areas where it is too narrow to build a sidewalk and the pedestrian has the right of way, but the cars have an opportunity to still be able to pass each other.
