Car Purchase Scam

A close relative recently became involded in what transpired to be a car purchase scam (but fortunately escaped unscathed!) An individual of the name of Toni Gerant, email name toniautomobile, etc, operates out of Cyprus and "sells" cars via the Internet. He has a partner, a logistics guy, called DJC who maintains a fake website. They claim to have a garage in Dubendorf, and just to add a veneer of respectability, advertise in Autoscouts.CH. The scam is simple - aren't they all?! They "sell" cars at very competitive prices, the purchaser emails them 30% of the total sale price, the balance supposedly being paid upon delivery. The car is shipped from Cyprus/Greece to CH via Italy, where it becomes blocked by Italian Customs, after the 30% deposit has arrived in the vendor's bank account of course! The company is now black-listed by my relative's bank and the Swiss police are involved. Don't have anything to do with these people!

Re: Car Purchase Scam

It's a very old scam, I don't understand how there are people still out there that would pay 30% IN ADVANCE for a car they have never seen? And more over, a car in Greece!?

Re: Car Purchase Scam

People are gullible, and greedy when the price is right. A friend of mine was cheated out of Fr 7,000 in several payments. She now feels very stupid!
