car park rowdy

OK you who know me know that I am the personification of peace and patience. But I can't believe what happened to me twice today.

Here I am at a parking lot, ready to get in the free space and whoooosh comes somebody from the other side and gets in!

Is that legal in Switzerland? I wouldn't have minded had there been more spaces unoccupied, but both times it was the very last one and I clearly indicated that I wanted to get in and was just waiting for the other car to pass (which is what I thought they were doing)

Can I call the police next time?

How rude of these people. But, were there any witnesses? And, unfortunately, wouldn't it be your word versus the other person's word?

Frustrating, of course. But not sure it is a legal or a police matter...

I think no and I didn't look around for witnesses because I was so mad. For a moment I thought about getting out of the car and shout at them (in both cases) but then again I hate shouting, especially in public and to strangers.

That's what I ask myself. I know that in Germany it is.

I got out of our car went over knocked on his window explained we had been waiting they say sorry and drive back out car park was ours each time. No need to shout

i imagine it is very rare for such a thing to happen, because the offender in person would likely find all four tires punctured and scratches along every panel on the car...

Re: car park rowdy

It's happened to me several times over the years where some tube has decided his car is so important and shiny he can blast his way into my long-awaited parking space but not once did it occur to me that it is illegal

It's queue jumping on four wheels, nothing more nothing less.

Jesus, how do they police that? All you'd have to say is "I was actually here first" and the complainant is buggered.

I think it would be hard to determine guilt/responsibility. Possible excuses could be:

"I didn't see their turn-signal."
"Their turn-signal was not on."
"I was there first."

The list goes on...

Re: car park rowdy

Frustrating and very rude. But no police matter really. We were leaving Gruyères car park last year, and one lady was patiently waiting for us to get out - and had been waiting for quite a while. As we reversed, a Swiss woman, middle-aged, well-dressed, butter wouldn't melt type got in, arriving from other side. I got out and quietly and politely told her that she was not fair, as the other lady had been waiting for ages. She told me she was not interested and I told her in no uncertain terms that she was rude and that I wished her a Merry Christmas. All I could do was to commiserate with the other lady, who thanked me for trying to sort things out (happened to be from the US and black).

It's easier just to poke the valve-stem down. No permanent damage that way, just an annoying flat they can fill at the next service station.

The Strassenverkehrsordnung says it is not allowed and I believe it's called violation of traffic regulations.

I was actually thinking about it, b ut it was a bright, sunshiny day and somebody for sure would have seen that and called the police.

Sometimes our wonderful governments pass laws that are impossible to enforce, but they are laws.
