getting a driving license

I am searching for information on "how to get a driving license in switzerland" and not "how to use foreign driving license in switzerland". The sticky thread [Drivers licence] Conversion and questions has 55 pages and it is a pain to read all of them. In short my questions are:

1- I am here in Lausanne for 3 months and have permit B. Can I apply for a driving license?

2- What are the steps? Which office?

3- Is there any information/book/manual about driving rules here in Lausanne?

4- What types of exams should I take?

5- Is there any difference about the driving rules among cantons?

6- What is the price?

Re: getting a driving license

Do you expect someone to read the 55 pages for you and make a summary?

It depends very much on the country that has issued the license. For EU etc it is just a formality, others need to do a test.
All info is actually easy to find on the internet.

It will take longer than 3 months to get one (lessons,test, waiting time etc)
and it is rather expensive. get in when you move back

Re: getting a driving license

1- Yes
2- The process is the following (for category B)
Phase 1:
- Subscribe to the First Aid course and complete it;
- Fill this form (http://www.vd.ch/uploads/tx_vdfilesdb/0220_v1204.pdf) to apply for permis d’eleve (learners permit) , go to the optician so he will fill the Part 3 of it as well;
- Take the filled form, First Aid course certificate, photo, ID and go in person to Service des Autos (http://www.vd.ch/themes/mobilite/automobile/) and make an appointment for theory exam;
- Upon passing the theory exam you will get permis d’eleve which allows you to practice driving
Phase 2:
- Practice driving;
- Subscribe and complete Sensibilisation course;
- Get your appointment for practice exam;
- Pass the exam;
- Done.
3- http://www.ch.ch/private/00081/00083/index.html?lang=en
4- See above
5- AFAIK No
6- Depends on how many practice lessons you take (plan for 90-100 CHF per hour). All fixed fees you can check once in Service des Autos

Re: getting a driving license

Here is a recommended reading:

Ordonnance réglant l’admission des personnes et des véhicules à la circulation routière

Here are three readings that must be read:
Loi fédérale sur la circulation routière

Ordonnance sur les règles de la circulation routière.

Ordonnance sur la signalisation routière

Here is an other recomended reading:
Ordonnance sur les amendes d’ordre Especially do not miss Annex 1.
