parking for short time

after 8 years living in Switzerland, I have realized that it is aloud to park at non marked places for 10 minutes, it means that if you want to get your children out of the car, and there is no parking space, you can park for 10 minutes even at a street corner..

Re: parking for short time

Not true I was charged 180chf for stopping in a no parking area to pick my husband up from a shop (motorbike shop) he was there checking on his repaired bike. Even though I was able to show the police doc's that I had just picked my husband up from hospital after a motorbike accident and he appeared on crutches they still fined
me... And threaten to fine me more for having my hazard lights on if I didn't move on without disputing the original fine

Re: parking for short time

Who needs fines when it's nearly guaranteed someone will chase you up and yell at you for being parked somewhere not allowed? I got chased up even when I forgot to put money in the meter for a perfectly legal spot. I'd pay a fine rather than deal with the cranks that beset me every time I had the most minor parking infractions.

Re: parking for short time

I don't follow the logic here. If we all parked for ten minutes by the kerb regardless of corners or whatever, there'd be chaos.

'Hazard' lights are anyway only to be used in an emergency.

Given the parking situation over here, I'd say we already have chaos, so maybe the OP is right

It always creates problems when everybody does the same. That's why I like to do as I please over going along with the herd.

Re: parking for short time

You're allowed to park wherever you like and as long as you like, and in some instances the nice police will take your car and put it in a safe place for you.

There is normally a hefty service charge involved though.

Re: parking for short time

Actually, as long as it's not a no-parking designated area, yes you CAN park where you like (provided there are no designated parking spots)!

However, if it is a no-parking area, then it's no parking, even for 10 seconds!

Tom

Re: parking for short time

Well, I can't quote a written source, but it seem to be a known rule among the local swiss people. After writing the post I actually asked the street inspectors about it ( I see them too often..) it is like this- it is aloud to park for ten min, in order to bring or take children for exaple, but NOT at a cross roads, not where it marked yellow and not on a pavement. I don't know what about entrane of hospitals etc. And I guess that there are some more Noes. Ask the police or the street inspector about it!

I wouldn't recommend this. The valeting was terrible. I'm not sure they even waxed my car.

At a certain point in the not-to-distant future, I suspect you're going to learn an expensive lesson.

I tried that once. Looked everywhere and saw no signs, so parked there. I got a ticket.
