Threathened at the traffic lights

Hallo EFrs
here am i telling you a strange and ridicolous story. I was actually driving and there was a guy in front of me who was going extremely slow. because of this the cars behind me were flashing me and i, in turn, flashed him. Then i got to a traffic lights and this guy got out of his car and came to me and started talking in swiss german, trying to threaten me because i flashed him. I didn't reply to him nor did i opened the window nor did i in any way reacted as he was looking at me really mad. Then he looked at my license plate and got back in his car and wrote down my license plate's number. Then the traffic lights turned green and he started to speed up and left. Unfortunately i didn't take his license plate number. Now, what consequences should I expect as unfortunately my details are available on the eautoindex web site ? Can he contact the police because of this ? could he cause me troubles whatsoever? What should I do? Should I go to the police and report what happened ? thanks for your advice.

I wouldnt worry how can he ever prove you flashed your lights unless he had a video camera in his car.

Re: Threathened at the traffic lights

always wimp them off, ignoring is the best medicine for their anger. Nothing will come from this . Unless he looks up your address from the plates ....

And if he were to inform police just tell them about his verbal assault and how you want to press charges. He said / she said situation

Just out of curiosity; did you not "retaliate" out of fear or simply because you were the better person?

Man, are you kidding? Just forget the idiot. The salvation army is more likely to come after you than the police.

Not much you can do, unfortunately. Remember to calmly get the license plate next time.

Was there a second adult in his car, a witness?

In Switzerland, flashing headlights, not as a warning of danger, can be considered as threatening behaviour and can result in a fine or even prison.

Article 181
coercion
Any person who by force or threat of serious harm or by other restriction of his freedom of action compels to do something, to refrain from or to tolerate, shall be punished with imprisonment up to three years or a fine.

Article 180
threat
Someone who displaced by severe threat in terror or fear, will be punished at the request, with imprisonment up to three years or a fine.

Re: Threathened at the traffic lights

I had something similar happen once when I didn't get off the light fast enough for some guy in a maserati. At the next light he came up to my window and knocked, gesturing for me to roll it down. I'm not in the habit of entertaining conversations at a traffic light so I didn't, he pressed, got aggressive and I gave him the international finger sign to piss off. He huffed off and did something similar of writing something down. I didn't think twice about it as, after having drivers try and run me off the road as I passed them, legally, in the passing lane, I figured some douche trying to be a bitch at a stoplight was pretty tame. Driving in Boston is so tame these days....I never thought I'd ever say that....I even giggled at some guy doing a k-turn in the middle of a busy road the other day. Dumb, yes. Aggressive and violent, no.

Thank you, we can wait and see can't we? Perhaps before condemming something you have obviously had no experience of.
I have never seen so much pathetic ignorant scaremongering drivel in one post.

Enlighten me, show me any conviction under those offences where the defendant was just flashing his / her headlights.

Oh, you can't, you just made it up didn't you ?

Re: Threathened at the traffic lights

Unless there's more to the story (e.g. flashing combined with tailgating) it usually comes under "missbräuchliche Abgabe von Warnsignalen" - which is #322 in the official list and carries a 40CHF fine. So relax.

(Sbrinz, some of your links above seem to be discussing the legal situation in Germany - sure they're applicable here?)

Re: Threathened at the traffic lights

Have several times experienced people writing down my number. Plus on one occasion some nutter in a convertible Astra on the autobahn pretending to dictate into something that clearly was one of those remotes for opening garage doors.

Never heard any more.

Re: Threathened at the traffic lights

Don't worry about it. Swiss people are frustrated and they all think they are authorities. Best is to ignore them. If that's not possible just yell at them. If that doesn't work just push them away.

Enjoy the geography ignore the haters.

Re: Threathened at the traffic lights

Can anyone seriously tell me with a straight face that they know for a fact that someone went to prison flashing their lights?

If so, what's the penalty for flashing lights and honking at the same time, maybe the electric chair?
