Night Parking Thalwil

Hi,
I found a little street near Thalwil with no signs or markings on the road so I thought I could park there. I just found out that you need to pay for night parking (http://www.thalwil.ch/de/verwaltung/...page=0#faq2240) Is anyone aware of this, I'm trying to figure out how they can enforce it? But if anyone can, I'm sure the Swiss will find a way

Thanks,
Cathal

Re: Night Parking Thalwil

You pay a night charge in most towns (at least around Zurich). Which I think is good. If you can pay a car you can also pay parking, no

Re: Night Parking Thalwil

I suppose so, just when there were no signs or road markings I assumed I had a get out of jail free card. Perhaps not

Re: Night Parking Thalwil

The night parking fee has been running in Thalwil for about 8 years. The police cruise round and check the license plates of car parked in the street and check them off against a list who have paid.

If you haven't paid you get a bill, probably backdated to when either when you registered the car at a Thalwil address or when you registered at the Gemeindehaus. They should have advised you of this fee.

The good news is they don't check every night...

Re: Night Parking Thalwil

Thanks for the info, I have decided to bite the bullet and pay for the private parking space at my apartment, its not that much more expensive and probably worth the convenience. Should have know there wouldn't be anything for free!

Re: Night Parking Thalwil

As you are new there is something else you need to know.

Often in Switzerland there are small private roads, with no markings. At the start of a private road or private car park there is a sign at head height, about A5 size in aluminium with black printing, stating "Verbot" or "Mise a ban" The sign explains that if you do drive or park there, you can be fined CHF xx and there will also be a summary of the law and the judge agreeing the decision.

I have trawled Google images, and these are the only ones I can find, but they do not look exactly like those I have always seen here,
