Buying a second hand vehicle - French Part

Hi guys,

i live in the french part of switzerland, close to Yverdon. I am thinking of buying a second hand Mini Cooper (sold privately). It is 2006, 116,000 KM, final price is 7000 CHF. The car looks very fresh and tidy. I will like to buy a Mini Cooper but at the same time I dont want to spend too much money on a brand new car (~30K+).

Few questions for you experts:

1) Is this a good price for a 6 year old car? I have never owned a car before
2) what is MFK? are there any worthiness tests, MOT like certificates I need to consider for French part?
3) How do i ensure the car I am buying is not accidentally damanged, or requiring some repairs?
4) Does anyone know of good offers for Mini Coopers right now? Ive heard that a lot of dealers are selling for huge discounts because of the market slump

Your help is much appüreciated!!,

As you may know, Minis come in a variety of models and engines. Can you give us more details on the options/engine/colors of the particular car you're looking at? A quick search on autoscout24.ch makes me think 7k CHF is almost too good a price. So unless it is a base model "One" or bright pink or has mechanical issues, perhaps the seller is trying to unload it.

Have you seen the car in person yet? Go check it out. If you like it and it drives well, take it to a mechanic to have it inspected for damage and mechanical issues. Earlier Minis are notorious for having issues so be very cautious when buying a car that's very well priced. It could have hidden problems. Definitely get one with a fresh MFK as this can help to ensure a good running car.

Mini is generally a sought after car here in Switzerland so they keep their value quite well.

Yeah, Autoscout24 is a great site for getting an idea about the current prices on used cars, easy to compare.

You might want to consider joining TCS, it could be useful once you have the car. They have a service where they will inspect the car before you buy it if the seller agrees, and it is an extremely thorough inspection that takes into account known issues with popular cars, e.g. if a certain part regularly needs replacing after a certain time, etc.

I wouldn't by a used car that didn't have a proper service record and a mechanic to look it over first.
