It was probably ridiculously over because the street was empty and she revved like I've never seen anyone rev. It was also only for like 5 seconds she did that, but we got flashed nevertheless.
Oh dear! Sounds like she's in big doo doo!

A fine of a couple of thousand franks and a license suspension for a couple of months is in order me thinks!

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

I'm a little disappointed they didn't include the picture in the letter because I remember I had the most horrified expression on my face.

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

Switzerland is very small, if they know who she is already they'll find out! They don't tend to lose things in the shuffle here like they would in most English-speaking countries, if she's here on a long-term basis she should take care of that really soon. I know people who have received fines in the mail in the US a few months after jaywalking in Basel!

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

I got contacted by the police in a similar fashion, with a request for questioning for an unrelated incident. I hadnt done anything but they wanted to ask me questions about an incident they were investigating. When I asked a native speaker of the content they advised me that the message ended with, "you do not have to respond to this letter".

So, I basically ignored it thinking no issues.

Well, some weeks later I got another message from the police regarding a summons to which I called them and advised of the "not having to respond bit. They mentioned no, it meant I did not have to answer their questions but I still needed to attend and say no comment if I wish.

Moral of story, it wont go away until they have closed the case.

Don`t you think it`s time to stop giving your advice? If, of course, this person is REALY your friend? After all, which of you is going to suffer from these mis-deeds? Of course, you can be a real good friend and ask to visit and bring chocolates on visiting days.

That's terrible! I hope they don't do that for crossing the street when the green man hasn't shown up yet on the crossing signal lamp thing.

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

Has your friend got a really common Swiss name, or a more unusual foreign name? If the second, they would have found her easily through a national database. I certainly know I am the only one with my name here in CH, same for OH - we would be easily found!

Honestly, the sooner your friend goes to the police to explain she'd give a false address so as not to get lots of advertising of sales harrassment, the better. Otherwise one fault will compound another, and she'll find herself in a much bigger mess.

Are you still advertising for a nanny position on this forum?

I guess you don't feel you're representing your country when you're abroad?

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

A very unusual foreign name unfortunately. Her last name is super long and German sounding.

I'm seriously confused. Nanny position? I've never advertised for a nanny position. and how is representing my country related to this?

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

She's a student and doesn't make any income and since I think we were way over the speed limit she'll get charged according to income which is zero. So I think I shouldn't be too worried about the fine unless someone wants to tell me otherwise.

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

Forgive me for suggesting the obvious but why not contact the company who gave the car for the trial and see what information they have?

If the car owner has a copy of the drivers license (which is normal) then they will catch up with your friend.

So you remember the flash and your expression but don't have an idea of speed? Was it in town? Were there any kittens?

...Is this something she can just ignore since they haven't presented any incriminating evidence that proves it was her?

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

yeah no it's not me..it's funny that people think that..but let me just say my part..
1) I don't have an international driving license-
2) I don't even know how to drive stick, I only drive automatic.
3) If I were the one behind the wheel we'd probably be dead.
