There is a long held tradition on forums for people to pose questions on behalf of a mate e.g. My mate was caught stealing ladies underwear from his neighbours washing line, could he lose his B permit?

yeah no it's not me..it's funny that people think that..but let me just say my part..
1) I don't have an international driving license-
2) I don't even know how to drive stick, I only drive automatic.
3) If I were the one behind the wheel we'd probably be dead.
Guilty as charged!

hm yes I guess I do sound very young and naive in my responses..
but I think you're taking everything I write a little too seriously..I'm just having a bit of fun writing these responses.
I hope the police don't know about your blog otherwise they'll be able to find you pretty quick! (funny stuff on there by the way)

Are you still advertising for a nanny position on this forum?

I guess you don't feel you're representing your country when you're abroad?

I'm seriously confused. Nanny position? I've never advertised for a nanny position. and how is representing my country related to this?
As you ask:

I found that in about three clicks. I wondered whether you were trolling.

Obviously not.

I can't believe that this course of action is what you'd advise if you were back in LaLa land.

Having , myself, previously been engaged in situations with representatives from LAPD LACSD and CHP, I am sure that you wouldn't even attempt this tactic, there

Are you maybe suffering from the if I'm not at home, it's not real and it will go away syndrome?

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

I think we're missing information here. OP claims that they were flashed when revving the engine for 5 seconds or so. The "friend" got an email from the police instead of an official communication like a letter or in-person visit. The text OP copied and pasted doesn't reference speeding or a camera or anything. Are we sure that this summons is A) legit and B) related to the speeding? Maybe OP and/or friend are into some other trouble?

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

True, contacting the car company to see what info they have is a good idea..but regardless of whether they have all the info or not, I'm wondering if that should that affect whether she goes to the court summoning or not? If they do she should obviously go, but if they don't, Judging from people's advice, she should go anyways because they will eventually find her out.

No I don't know what the speed was like because I was in the passenger's and I wasn't paying attention. And the speeding only lasted 3-4 seconds. I'm not too familiar with km and it was also my first time in a car here. It felt like 80 mi/hr. It was in town. No kittens.

Quote:

Forgive me for suggesting the obvious but why not contact the company who gave the car for the trial and see what information they have?

If the car owner has a copy of the drivers license (which is normal) then they will catch up with your friend.

So you remember the flash and your expression but don't have an idea of speed? Was it in town? Were there any kittens?

Unfortunately I've got extensive experience in this field, so here's my take on this:

- Getting caught speeding over a certain limit always involves a court, no automatic fines and slap on the wrist. So expect to get mail about 2-4 months after the event.

- If your friend is leaving the country soon, leave it. Otherwise, react!

- I don't know how clever your friend is, but unfortunately the coppers are not as stupid as you'd like them to be. So, don't deny facts they know
(ex:I didn't receive the email - electronic delivery confirmation)
(ex: It wasn't me driving - speed camera picture... and so on)

- Don't argue about facts, argue about interpretation/motivation, that's the only thing you can influence and will make all the difference.

- Cooperate, admit and repent; I got off lightly several times like that. Any hole in your story and she'll get the max punishment which could be, depending on how much faster she drove, a suspended prison sentence. (my money is on 2 months revocation plus fine around 500-800.- plus administrative fees around 300.-, would be more if she wasn't a student)

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

What else would this be about? Nothing in person because the address is wrong. That's exactly why I am doubting if appearing for the summons is even necessary because the letter doesn't say anything specific about the speeding. It just says:
You are summoned for questioning please see the details below..then it says come to this place at this time..and
Im Strafverfahren betreffend:

Verkehrsregelverletzung mit dem .......

and please bring ID etc.

Stage 1: Find guilty person, confirm it's them, get their real address.
Stage 99: Court

Some bits in between.

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

I'm not going to advise her to do that so no need to worry about that..I should just edit that part out in my previous post..

No I'm actually very worried about her, hence this thread, because she's a Swiss citizen. I assume she will just go and pay. But because the email letter was so vague I was contemplating other courses of action or lack thereof.

Had they had her address, it would have been far more specific. The police know that they cannot write the same things in an email so are simply asking your friend to come in and confirm it was or was not her.

She'll then get the specifics.

This I'm not sure about. It was over 2 months ago and we had forgotten all about it. I don't know what the limit was either or which street exactly it was.

It was probably ridiculously over because the street was empty and she revved like I've never seen anyone rev. It was also only for like 5 seconds she did that, but we got flashed nevertheless.
Uhh...just to remind you. The Swiss can find you, believe me. If she lives in Switzerland she is registered at a gemeinde. You see, what the police are doing now is giving your friend a chance to "redeem" herself. The Swiss like that. It shows you want to follow the rules and answer to authority and all of that good stuff. They are patient too! Then BANG...comes the next stage which may be a HUGE fine, or she HAS to report to the police station...pronto, or worse, get ready for that permit to get tangled with....Go on and get it over with, it won't be that bad...Good Luck

Edit: Okay...you say she is a Swiss citizen, but all rules still apply.

My best guess is that they have the name from the demo form and have just spammed all email addresses of that name that they could find, in the hope that the guilty party comes forward. If the 'friend' has an unusual or non-Swiss name then they may be best to 'fess up asap and avoid any more trouble, but if s/he is called Urs Mueller or something equally Swiss they might have a reasonable chance of getting away with it.

Or not.

Re: Caught Speeding while on a Test Drive

No sorry if there's confusion..It was only an email. They sent her an email with an attachment of the actual letter, which she emailed to me. Hope that wasn't even more confusing.

Hold on I thought they sent an email, you are saying they sent a letter now?
If they sent a letter in the post just get your friend to go and confess to her traffic violation.

Job done!

Okay - I'll explain it in the simple terms that you need:

I, and lots of other forum users wouldn't consider employing you in a role as a nanny, nanny-sitter (or in any other role in their homes), if you post, on the same forum, that you are, in your words, "Always trying to dupe the authorities".

Maybe you were just trying to be funny in your own naive way?

I was trying to. But she kept bringing it up again.

And anyway, it's a good warning. Switzerland isn't a good country to try and dupe the authorities.

(But I'm sure she's clear about that now).
