lost ticket with evidence of purchase, still fined?

Hi there,
I have tried to find info on this but can't see it mentioned in any threads (sorry if I am bringing up the same topic).

I got checked on a tram last week and had bought a ticket before but obviously dropped it before I got on. I have an account statement to say I bought the ticket and an order number, should they still fine me 100 chf?

Has anyone gone through this before? I would appreciate any help thanks!!!

Re: lost ticket with evidence of purchase, still fined?

If it's not a ticket that required a photo ID, i.e. the standard one hour / daily tram / bus tickets there is no way out of it I believe.

Same happened to me on train from Hardbrucke to Zurich HB. I had left the day pass on my desk, was not even worried when the undercover inspectors flashed their IDs for checks. Realised I had left it on my desk and they werent having any of it.

I said if I could provide ticket to appeal would it be ok, and they said no as could get ticket from anyone.

depends if you could get the ticket back or if it was a personal ticket. otherwise, you can buy the ticket and give it to someone else and use the receipt yourself.

If you have the account statement then take it to the Kundendienst of the company that fined you. They might charge you CHF 5 for the trouble, checking their records, but it is better than a fine and a black mark on your record!

I would fight the charge, rather than meekly pay up.

Wasting your time, like Phil said. There is nothing personal about the ticket then you could buy it and give it away. Proof of purchase is not valid in these cases for this reason.

Did it happen today? Get a personal monthly pass for Zone 10 (assuming it was Zurich) Thats CHF 81. Then go to the next counter and show your fine and your new shiny monthly pass to pay the reduced fine of CHF 5.

All in all you will pay CHF 86 and get free transportation in Zurich City for one month. Sweet Deal.

If it happened yesterday, you may get a backdated monthly pass. Ask the ticket guys.

thanks for all the helpful replies. i think i will call up and argue it as i have the account statement with my name on it.
unfortunately it was last week so i think the monthly ticket option is out.
it is very frustrating when you genuinely had bought a ticket!!

If you ask, and it's your first offense, they may lower the fine.

It's not whether the account statement has your name on it -- it's whether the ticket has your name on it.

For a ticket with your name on it (like a monthly subscription), there is no risk that you bought the ticket but gave it to someone else. So if you can show this, they will probably waive the fine.

If, on the other hand, you bought a ticket without your name on it (like a daily pass or single ticket), they will not accept the account statement as proof. There is no way to prove that you bought it and used it for yourself -- you could have given it to someone else instead.

Re: lost ticket with evidence of purchase, still fined?

On the SBB I purchased three tickets for a day of travel, and lost one of them (the middle trip).

I was fined, but e-mailed them my bank statement with the withdrawals and the two other tickets I didn't lose, pointing out dates and times, and they gave me a reduction on the fine.

Yep, same reasoning as to why if I got the ticket that was on my desk and sent it in they cant be satisfied it was my ticket for the day.

Sucks I know, but oh well. I am still up several thousand.

Just called up and was told very rudely and condescendingly that it's not thier problem They won't even take his name off the record with the proof of purchase, let alone reduce the fine. Live and learn I suppose
