how to transfer ownership in Switzerland?

Hi guys,
I'm about to buy a used motorcycle, and I want to make sure I have the right documents I would need to transfer the ownership from the seller to me.

I think it's just a piece of paper with the person's name and the license plate number, and I take this to the service des automobiles et de la navigation to get the ownership changed to me, is that right?

Thank you!

Re: how to transfer ownership in Switzerland?

Yes, that's all you need.

Though, you also need to take it to your insurance before you go to get the new plate.

You own 6 bikes? wowza..

say, would you be able to tell me if Honda CBR125Rs have sufficient anti-theft security on its own for the city life of Lausanne? For some reason, I go to the Honda website and on the features for the CBR125, there isn't a single mention about the anti-theft disc lock that they use.

Re: how to transfer ownership in Switzerland?

a disc lock or steering lock is totally useless, as are 99% of chains.

if someone wants the bike it will be gone in seconds, either by cutting a chain in some seconds or just lifting it into a van or by putting a skateboard under it.

disc locks and chains just stop the opportunist.

oh and if you do get a chain dont have it lying on the ground when you lock the bike.

Re: how to transfer ownership in Switzerland?

easy prey if someone wants it, but suspect the target is more in line with scooters than a CB125.

rather look for somewhere well lit, not hidden away, but as before, for your bike you are looking to stop the opportunist so a good chain would be ok.

but keep in mind that chains such as abus, kryponite, oxford chains etc last about 20 seconds, some less than 10 seconds if attacked with hand tools.
