It will be interesting to return to this thread in 10 years.

All car manufacturers will be selling EVs - and most EVs only. Battery technology will have taken a quantum leap with ranges of over 1000kms with charging in 2 to 3 minutes. 0 - 60 in 3 seconds. Minimal servicing - only brakes and tyres.

The EV will so outperform ICE powered cars as to make ICEs unsaleable...

When that happens, certainly it will be far more attractive and i guess chargers will be a lot more common, but until then i don't want to be dictated to as to where and when i need to stop

Best avoid any routes with traffic lights then.

What I actually wonder is who will be providing the power to charge those cars. In a country like Switzerland, there is a tendency to move away from nuclear power plants but what will replace it?

Quartz watches were supposed to take over from mechanical, however people will still pay 1,000,000 CHF for a hand made watch.

Hopefully more reliance on personal electricity generation with solar roofs, solar panels, all stored up in repurposed Tesla batteries in your garage The sun is after all the greatest power source the planet has and no other power sources would be around without it.

So not only are we going to be dictated to where we stop, we can pnly go out on sunny days.......

As AbFab point ed put, until batteries have at least 1 days' capacity, circa 1'000km and battery technology has advanced, the very serious Achilles heel of battery cars over fossil fuel cars is the range. 400km is really not very much, not even a Geneva to Zurich and return which is not a very uncommon route, without a forced stop of 20-30 minutes to top up charge and also providing i drive carefully.

Battery cars are good, excellent even, but for cites at present without a doubt and here they really do have a purpose, but a Tesla cannot be called a city car, it is a large sedan type car.

You can’t kill yourself running a handmade watch in a closed garage. Try that with an ICE car though...

Traditional cars are basically small power plants that run on gasoline. I personally think it is easier to cap emissions from larger, even “dirty” fossil fuel driven power plants than cap those on millions of small power plants that drive around the country.

You won't die of carbon monoxide poisoning on any car built within about the last 25 plus years due to catalytic converters. You need something like my old Porsche 911 if you want to kill yourself.

I must have done Zurich to Geneva return more than 500 times, however I never stayed in Geneva less than an hour so I should have been able to get some charge in that time.

Each to their own, i guess.

I'm currently sat at a supercharger getting what would be 100chf plus worth of petrol for free, whist enjoying a coffee.

If you have time to spare in your life, i can fully recommend going electric. If you're beholden to other things and need to dash to and from Geneva without 30 mins layover, fair enough, it's not currently for you.

Anyway, hope you have time to chill in the next few days and Merry Xmas to all.

Exactly because I know how much dribble is being wrote. Having had experience of the tosser it is definitely not the perfect fit. Still a long, long way to go in terms of practicality.

Sure but you will be conscious for a very long time & be able to open the door. Alternatively just some plants in your garage

Given your vitriol, it really seems your dislike is a bit more deep rooted than just a Tesla not being practical for your particular set of circumstances.

I've not seen any dribble (drivel?) on this thread until this post in all honesty, just a sensible discussion of pros and cons from owners and people who need convincing of the merits.
