Hi everyone,

I brought with me my 1998 Honda CBR 600 from US and I am planning to register it soon in Basel. I've been talking to a few of my colleagues and they have told me several things, but it just a bit confusing. So, I would like to tell you guys were do I stand and get some EF knowledge.

Bike: 1998 Honda CBR 600
Plates: I cancelled my US plate prior to shipment to cancel my insurance. so no plates.
Modifications: Vines and Hines exhaust, painted calipers, aftermarket levers.
Known issues: need to change my visor and two wheels are slightly bent (does not affect in any way the riding nor controls for the US inspections).

My plan was to take this motorcycle to a Honda dealer and ask what would I need to change. Is this a good idea?

As I have no plates, is there a one day permit I can have for bringing the bike to a garage? If so how is that called?

Other than the costs and what I have told ou here, what else do I need to know before going through the registration process?

In advance I thank you all for all your help!

Best!

With this I meant that even though the two wheels are slightly bent the bike passed inspection in US and it does not affect the riding, though I've heard Switzerland is so strict for their requirements and don't know if this will be a problem for me here. Tks!

Re: Queries: Registering a US motorcycle in Basel

The exhaust is a problem, and probably the wheels.

All after-market modifications need to be certified.

If they are standard accessories from Honda and available in the Swiss market, then the certification is likely on file at the vehicle registry office.

Otherwise, you will need to get the accessories certified, at your cost.

Obviously, a new coat of paint on an item will likely not require certification.

But exhaust will absolutely need to be certified.
And maybe the levels too.

And two bent wheels on a motorbike? That means all wheels are bent, and it is likely the vehicle inspection office won't like that.... but of course it depends on how deformed the wheels are.
