Thanks for the very kind offer. I do in fact have (kind of) a question: the boot latch on my car has recently started to malfunction. It unlocks only after several tries. From what I read on the internets, it might just be gunked up, so I'll probably have to take it apart and clean it. If you're bored and want to join this operation, let me know, I'll provide the beer :)

Are you talking about it unlocking as part of the central locking? If so, you may well find you need to swap out the solenoid. Not a big job - the hardest part will be removing the tailgate trim

Actually, it doesn't unlock with the key either. It unlocks after some tries either by key or remote. So I'm guessing the mechanism is just gunked up...

Oh yea and I can barely twist the key (but who unlocks their car by key in this day and age anymore) :p

I wanted to try it last night as I was sure I had a can of it somewhere. Alas, all I could find was brake cleaner and bycicle chain oil spray :). I think Jumbo sells wd40 so I'll probably go get a can during the weekend and douse the mechanism.

You'd be better off with the chain oil.

But I DO have to clean the gunk first, right? I was going to go for wd40 to clean the gunk and then vaseline (I still have a can of MoS2) to grease the mechanism.

If neither way unlocks it - then it is probably the solenoid. The funny thing with them is they don't just stop - they sort of fade out - so your 1 in 4 unlocks/locks will become 1 in 10 - then 1 in 20

Until you spend 15mins in B&Q car park trying to get the damn thing unlocked :o:o

It might indeed be what's happening. I want however to open it up first and check for gunk, just to be sure it's not that. Normally the car is in a garage, so it shouldn't be gunked up, and this is Switzerland, where one can eat off the pavement, but who knows...

Thanks for the very kind offer, I may need your help after Monday, my car is going to have it's first MFK! Taking the advice from other threads, I decided to just put the car through and see what happens.

Yes it could be that it just collected dirt over the years.But it could be the mechanism it self.
The best way is to start with cleaning.
If not than you can stop by anytime over here at my place of work and i will have one of the techs take a look ;)

Haha, definitely my dream car. I sold my E36 M3 here and now I have a B7 RS4 Avant. :)

I take a few trips up to the Nurburgring, and will definitely be going as soon as it warms up a bit. You should join, if you dont go already.
