Has anyone ever used Generali for car insurance?

We just bought a car through Audi and the insurance company that Audi is partnered with (Zurich Connect) has horrible reviews therefore trying to research some other car insurance companies. Anyone have experience with Generali? Are they good? Any other recommendations for good car insurance companies?

Thanks,
Karin

I have used them, but made no claims, so cannot judge them.

I have used them and i made a claim. It was totally hassle free. But the dealer arranged them for us so no idea if that makes a difference

If it's any help we have been using them for years (here, Japan and back here) and we have never had any trouble with them (although we have not had that many claims either).

Re: Has anyone ever used Generali for car insurance?

If I compare car insurances, the most cost effective seems to be ELVIA and Generali with similar weights.

Are they on a par or did anyone have some bad/good experiences using the one or the other?

Re: Has anyone ever used Generali for car insurance?

I've used Generali for six years with no serious complaint. We've had a couple of claims (two auto accident, one theft) and these were handled quickly. Premium cost for the various coverages is on par with other companies. Only cons I would mention is, at least in Neuchatel, the agent turnover is high. I've had five different agents in six years. For me, developing a business relationship on a personal level is important; especially with doctors, bankers, lawyers, and insurance agents.

They probably got sacked as you made so many claims, amazed you can get any cover at all.

That's what insurance is for, yes?

You will very shortly be refused cover, insurance companies tent to expect to make a profit, some clients are bad risks & you won't find a company who wants to take them on.
I had 1 claim in 18 years if you want to put things in perspective.

As far as I know ELVIA is the new name for Allianz24 which is the online version of Allianz insurance.
We have been with them for seven years and have had no problems with them at all. Having said that we haven't made many claims but the ones we did were hassle free. ( one was hail damage and the other was a stolen spare wheel).

Good for you. Smart strategy - pay eighteen years worth of premiums and never submit a claim for fear of retribution. I'm sure your insurance company loves you.

This is one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of EF: "forum legends" lurking to derail posts with rather snooty, condescending comments of no substance, value, or advice to the original poster of the question.

So you think I should defraud the insurance company, no wonder premiums are so high. I had a Porsche & BMW, my annual premiums were 953 CHF, wish it had been less.

Re: Has anyone ever used Generali for car insurance?

Nothing I said suggested anything about fraud. When you have a legitimate claim, you should submit without fear of retribution - that's what you pay for. That's what insurance IS.

But obviously, my comment about derailing posts with condescending comments went right over your head. Tell me, FatMan, what's it like to be stupid?

Sorry, Karin M; I didn't mean to waste forum space having a useless battle of wits. I'll back away now and let FatMAn continue on without me...

I think Karin M. has long moved on to other things; particularly her mobile nail business (and there's nothing wrong with that - nail technicians will still be needed long after the rest of us have been replaced by neural networks living in the cloud...)

I *guess* what he means is those who have a lot of accidents/make a lot of claims should pay more than those who don't and he's grumpy because those who claim more (than him, i.e you, and him more than me) make it less value for money than those who don't. Insurance is a form of gambling just that very often you don't have the means to pay if you lose big. Those who rarely claim see less benefit/value for money than those who do.

As for Generali, I went with them this year because they were cheap. Apart from an email "you will be covered from 1.1.2016" I didn't get anything from them until mid-january and no responses to my online messages. They sent me a user feedback survey in Jan where I ticked "would neither recommend nor not recommend" for most things, so probably an average of 5/10 and they called me the very next day. I was covered from 1.1.2016 so everything was in fact ok.

Re: Has anyone ever used Generali for car insurance?

I would go with Mobiliar. Never had any trouble with claims (Park damage, Marten damage (Marderschaden). Not the cheapest, but if they have a profitable year you get a kick back. Also road service is included (no need for TCS). Also have real human agents with offices willing to visit you, if so desired. Use em for all my insurance needs (home, auto, etc.) and get a family rebate.

Re: Has anyone ever used Generali for car insurance?

I've been with Generali for many years. The couple of times I had claims, they were dealt with quickly and competently. My last claim was weasel damage. I got it fixed, e-mailed a scanned copy of the invoice and photos to them and the next day already had the money refunded.

Re: Has anyone ever used Generali for car insurance?

I'm thinking about signing with them. Does anyone know if they offer english speaking customer care? Their online offer was sent to me in english (unlike all other insurance offers including ELVIA).

Thanks for help!

Given that they've gone to the bother of translating the whole website, I would guess yes, Try calling the hotline and asking.

I've used them since forever. Only ever dealt with them in German. Never a problem.
