Driver's License in Lausanne

Hello

I have moved to Lausanne recently and would like to get a car driving license made. I read the sticky post here about driving license conversion etc but unfortunately for me, the US car driving license expired in 2012 and it cannot be renewed further.

I do not mind giving the whole test procedure again (text and driving) but my problem is lack of knowledge of French language. I believe that these tests in Lausanne are in French language and can be expensive too (~1500 CHF !). Can these tests be given in english ? Or as a colleague suggested me, go to some other canton (Neuchatel/Berne) to give these tests in english. Has anyone done something like this - ie - get a driver license made starting from basic test going upto driving test, both done under english language as means of communication ? Any input regarding this will be very helpful.

Are there driving schools in Lausanne who can help in this case (again in english)

You have no license, but you can exchange it for a Swiss license. Have you asked at the office? As your US license has only recently expired you might get one.

Hmm...what I've found to be crucially important is the record of when you first got your license in the USA. The fact that it is expired in the US may be overlooked by the Swiss. I contacted a driving school for my fiancÚ and they had no problem offering English lessons. Sorry, but I can't remember which school it was...just start emailing them but there is no reason to go to another canton.

Get somebody to phone the above N░ and ask.Problem solved.
Phone the US Embassy in Berne.
(I',m supposing you have internet to find their details...)

Easiest way: If you have family in the US, renew your US license and apply for a Swiss license using the HR in the company you work for. CHF 20.- and ten minutes work on the phone.
