Driving license conversion for wife

Hi all,
This is a bit strange situation. We applied for driving license conversion and got a test date for my wife. After practicing driving for some days and taking lessons my wife doesn't seem comfortable and don't want to take the test which is 10 days from now.
What could be done at this stage, please give some advice.

thanks

Re: Driving license conversion for wife

What country are you from?

If you're from the US, Australia, UK, EU, etc. then you would have needed to prove that you held a drivers licence prior to moving to Switzerland.

If you moved here after and got your licence back home..... then you still need to do the practical test.
The Swiss do this because it's otherwise cheaper to fly back, get your licence, then swap it.

If you're from most other countries, then it doesn't matter, you will still need to sit the practical test all the same.

..... Hang on, I'll try to find an additional 'online' link I've posted somewhere esle to help your wife out.

I doubt there is a fixed rule. Just ring the Strassenverkehrsamt and explain the situation - it's up to them to make the final decision either way.

This bit is actually pretty fixed:

Ask about the entire list of countries that are exempt. But as I said, if your wife obtained her licence 'after' her move date to Switzerland then there is no way out of it.

Does your wife not want to give the test in the next 10 days or she doesn't want to give the test at all ever? In the former case, you can make a request with your local Strassenverkerhrsamt for a changed date for the test citing a reason as "more practice needed for driving on the right side of the road" or something like that. In the latter case you might be in a bit of trouble with the authorities, but even that should be possible. Although in all probabilities she won't be given back her original driving licence, and you won't get it back unless you show proof of leaving the country for good.

This is based on my personal experience. In my wife's case, she got pregnant. So we changed the date of her test, twice. We had a vacation planned at the provided date, so at the third request for the date change, they sent back our application form (minus her original licence) informing us that we should apply for the test again when we are ready. We'll do that in the next month or so.

Re: Driving license conversion for wife

If you call them, they would be able to change the date. In most cases, there is not a problem in changing the test date for the first time.
