Hey guys,
My car is older than 5 years now. Shall I directly go to the automobile registration center for MFK or will I get an invite?
Thank you!

| | Re: Car and engine cleaning pre mfk test | Quote: | | | | | There are a few garages with a lift where it is allowed, one is in Dallikon near ZH. | | | | | Is there any self-service Autowaschanlage in North Zürich/Glattal region/Winterthur Wülflingen with such a lift? The ones I know is one in Aubrucke (w/o lift) and one in Altstetten (not sure if there's a lift).
I've got an upcoming MFK, but the car is brand new (import), so I'm not sure whether washing underneath the chassis is worth it.
On a side note... are there any special cleaning guidelines for pure electric motors?

More specifically you don't *need* one to sell it. But you will have more of a market available if the car has a fresh MFK.

Does anyone know if the waschbox with lifts in Aschwil is still open? Somebody posted a link to the attached dorfgarage some time ago but that appears permanently closed. I need to do an underbody wash for the MFK coming in a couple of week.
Secondly (and I know this has been covered a lot) what is the deal with cleaning the engine. I see some of the wash boxes have an "motor reinigung" setting. Can I lift the bonnet and use that to spray all the engine? Any areas I should avoid (I saw something about covering the alternator with a plastic bag).

Just to let you know a little tip that I discovered this year. You can have your MFK carried out by the TCS for a small amount more than a standard MFK (I think it's literally CHF 15-20 more than a standard MFK at the Strassenverkehrsamt), and they don't worry about clean engines or underbodies - or that's what they told me, anyway. I went to the one in Wädenswil. They were really nice there, I can highly recommend.

Hi,
I am moving my car from Poland - it is 2016 Golf GTI (before it was imported from USA). I have make a MFK pre service in VW here in Switzerland to know what I have to do. I get the list, 2 things are serious, rest in my opinion is not (broken plastic rim in front bumper, loose door hinge, etc.) But what I have to do is service of front brakes. And here I have a question, can I mount the whole brake caliper from another car (porsche macan, brand new part) or it will be a problem for MFK?

Resurrecting this ancient thread. My car had a pre-MFK test, and one "failure" was the "motor und chassis reiningen".
Sadly, TCS appear not to offer engine cleaning anymore.
Does anyone have a recommended place? Ideally near Zurich or Baden?

Take it to the car wash, clean the engine with a damp cloth and vacuum clean the inside.

| | | | | For my MFKs I've been doing the regular car wash that also has the "cleaning under the chassis" program (or however it's called).
For the engine bay I used soapy water (spray) or so called All Purpose Cleaner (available in Jumbo/Coop Bay u. Hobby or most fuel stations) for heavier dirt. Agitate the dirt with a brush and wipe it off with a microfiber towel.
Worked for me.

Ideally near Zurich or Baden? | | | | | Those Autop Locations have a lift and permit motor bay cleaning: https://autop.ch/standorte/volketswil https://autop.ch/standorte/aarau https://autop.ch/standorte/bremgarten
In the end they want to see if the seals are still o.k., motor is not leaking any oil.
Using the "Unterboden" Program on the carwash, plus removing the dusts with a damp towel has been so far good enough. But it depends how sealed your engine bay is,
PS: Why did you do this pre-MFK check rip off? CHF 60 ?!? For what? If you do the real thing, the best which can happen are some minor issues you can fix on your own with no re-check needed. The worst you will have 30 days to fix them and do a recheck, which costs as much as your pre-MFK check (or less).

33 CHF is pretty inexpensive if they're doing all the work for you.
I got swiss'ed on a failure to clean on the MFK and paid 170CHF after to clean and checked at the local garage.

I took mine to the local car wash yesterday and gave it the full clean including the chassis wash plus vacuumed the inside. I didn’t have the engine professionally cleaned.
It passed this morning without any problem.
