Re: Importing a Canadian car Canton of VD - advice?

Thx to all for responding and opinions. I'll try to respond/clarify:
-Porsche Boxster PDK.

-shipping is not an issue; car will be shipped from Port of Montreal with the other household items in a container. Problem is once it is reaching CH and passes customs.

-from my readings no insurance companies in CH will currently insure a car without a passed inspection; it used to be Zurich but apparently they do not offer this service anymore. And since I don't have EU plates I cannot get a transit insurance. Any tips here?

- regarding the 3,800 CH for homologation/registration; FYI - I contacted another company and I got the same type of "lump sum" quote - this time significantly lower; interesting, no one seems to be willing to submit an itemized quote...I don't have a problem with such companies making money - no one works for free; however, I cannot just give them a lump sum and hope all is done properly; wondering what is your experience with pre-job estimates in CH?

Thx!

As mentioned already by someone else, you can get border insurance.

This will let you legally drive the car on foreign plates until you pass inspection and get local insurance and plates. You can definitely do this with Quebec plates, I've done it myself a couple of years ago.

Re: Car and engine cleaning pre mfk test

Thank you CH_Greg, will explore and post any updates.

Update on cost - once I asked for an itemized estimate for homologation/registration, the company I was corresponding with went silent....interesting business practice...

Cheers,
