Best Car Resale Value

Hello,

I am moving to Switzerland in early August and am contemplating leasing a car. I wanted to know which type of cars have a better re-sale value (German or Japanese/Korean) and also should I opt for a Diesel or a Petrol version. I am going to be leasing for around 24 months and will probably buy-back and then sell it myself... seems this way I get a better deal

I did not find any similar threads so I thought of starting a new one..

All thoughts / comments welcome.

Regards,

SK

Re: Best Car Resale Value

If you are intent on leasing, I would get the cheapest possible car with the least number of options and then just hand the car back at the end of the lease. Don't bother trying to buy and then re-sell because the Swiss 2nd hand car market is glacial and you could be stuck with it for months.

Re: Best Car Resale Value

if you are desperate then lease away but be prepared to pay back far more than the car is worth due to depreciation.

I would look at some of the car supermarket places that are offering upto 50% compared to main dealer prices.

Re: Best Car Resale Value

Thanks Castro / Rob1.

Is buying a better / cheaper option than leasing? Will any financial institution willing to offer me a loan to buy the car since I am new there?

Rob1 - Can you suggest some places I can look since I dont know anything around there? Thanks again

Re: Best Car Resale Value

http://adu.ch/ largest discounter in CH

http://grosspeter.ch/home/occasionen/autosupermarkt another but you wont get such a big deal here though.

http://www.auto-schiess.ch/ another discounter

some vehicles at the discounters are imports so that means in the tpe certificate number you have an X instead of the SWISS type number.

no problem with insurance and given the amont of people i saw collecting cars on a saturday at ADU it doesnt bother too many people either.

I'm planning to sell my car so I'd like to understand this better. Could you (or anyone with similar opinion) offer some insights as to why this is the case in Switzerland? Has it always been like this?
