| | Auto Meetups / Enthusiast Clubs in/near Zurich
Hello all-
Just returned from the US, where I was reminded of the car culture that exists in the form of "cruise" days where people park their cars somewhere for the others to look at, whilst enjoying some good conversation about cars in general. Typically, these are pretty friendly affairs and a good way to meet like minded enthusiasts.
I have not come across anything similiar in the Zurich area. Does anyone know of such a regularly occuring event?
In absence of the above, does anyone know of any car clubs that accomplish something similar, albeit in a more organised way? Perhaps something that even has reasonable membership fees?
I've looked online for both of the above, but haven't really come up with anything of substance other than the occassional "invite only" (aka you need to be mega rich) car clubs.
Any advice / suggestions would be hugely appreciated as I am going through car-talk withdrawal! |

If I am not mistaken I think Zug has a classic and modern car event each year.

Thanks a lot SOBEIT. Looks like I just missed it this year...
Whilst auto shows & expos are fun, I guess I was thinking about something a bit less commercial and more regularly occuring like a club.
In the US, sometimes these are official clubs, other times informal, but in both cases, they have regularly (typically monthly or quarterly) attending people such that a community has formed around their common interest.
It's something like that that I'd really like to find here...

This might be of interest: http://www.british-cars.ch/
Held every year on the first Saturday of October this rally brings you around 1,500 vintage cars all parked up along the lakeside. It's a great day out and you'll also find Grumpygrapefruit there with his Great British Cheese stand selling all sorts of goodies. We go most years. You could easily get a fast train from Zurich to Lausanne and then get a commuter to Morges, it's only a short walk from the station to the lakeside.

I would definitely be down to help set up some sort of meet for auto enthusiasts. Would be cool to meet up and take a drive somewhere through the awesome roads that we have here.
In Orlando, FL we had a thing called a poker run that we did each year. It was a lot of fun, and we had over 100 cars (mostly BMWs) at the event.
What do you drive here?

Actually, planning something is definitely interesting...given that my searching for something has turned up nothing, perhaps organising a cruise would be best.
The main reason I haven't actually looked into it is time, so to the extent that you are keen as well, perhaps we can look into it together. | Quote: | | | | | What do you drive here? | | | | | I was driving an B6 Audi S4 for a while (and a second-gen WRX before that). Now I have the privilege of running a 997 C4S... I know it's a cliché, but it's seriously the best car I've ever driven.
You?

You? | | | | | Yeah, we can definitely try to figure something out. I often go to the Nurburgring in Germany to do a few laps so if you are interested in that kind of stuff, you are welcome to join next time I go. Plenty of car enthusiasts there.
I currently have a E61 BMW M5. I love the 997 C4S, such a great car. I had the pleasure of driving one before and can attest to its greatness.

Amazing, in a place where i have never seen so much exotica since I was in Thailand , they dont have monthly meets to admire each others classic cars!
Most disappointed as i too would of liked to have found a monthly cruise, sadly i dont have the kind of car that takes part in these things, but would of loved to walked around admiring such beauties

Nurbergring: on my list, but never actually pulled my finger out to do it! I guess having a little kid I'd running about puts the damper on the longer trips at the moment, but I am probably just making excuses! :-)
Anyway, have been brainstorming a bit about possibilities for a meet-up, but haven't really taken it much further than concepts. If you are still keen to investigate Maybe PM me and we can exchange details to talk about this further out of the forums? No rush on this, but it would be interesting to hear about any ideas you might have.
Finally: the hallowed V10 M5. Never driven one nor even ridden in one, but nonetheless, what a machine!!!

Assuming we got something set up, I would hope to make it equally open to any and all car lovers...
And I agree with you that in a place where there are so many nice cars, it's such a shame they are not on display more!

A bit of an update, albeit not from anything I've been able to organise: a company called Meilenwerk is in the process of setting up a huge auto-enthusiast centre in Horgen.
Some of you may have heard about them from an identical concept in Stuttgart. I visited there in July and was blown away with the ambition: it is kind of a working museum with classic cars, high-end dealers, glass parking boxes for rent, resturants and a car-themed hotel. And the metal on display was seriously special: some finds included a 1968 GT40, a Ferrari F40 and an Enzo. All in all, it was pretty spectacular.
In any case, they are branching out with an identical concept into Switzerland by renovating a disused factory right by the Zurichsee. If they pull it off, it should be pretty cool for piston heads.
Check it out! http://www.meilenwerk.com/meilenwerk...rte/zuerichsee | This user would like to thank babybeluga for this useful post: | |

There used to be something like that at the Autobahn restaurant in Würenlos. It got in the news a bit some years ago as some of the boy racers who took part were misbehaving. Things have gone quiet since but possibly there is a nucleus of people still meeting there.

Boy racers doing burnouts crashing cars isn't the sort of cruise I'm looking for though |
