Cheeky bastards, they don't even make an effort by saying "drive safe, turn on the lights" or something... | | | | | they know what people care about : money.... |

So basically the answer is "Yes", you're expected to read the news.... :-)
That's cool, I did. I'm just surprised the SAN (or Police?) aren't required to send a letter out is all...

I've tried hard to follow this thread, but individual circumstances (car models, year manufacturer, dimmed versus DLRT, etc etc.) makes it not easy to be 100% sure.
So eventually, I drove to the Strasseverkersamt (Winterthur) in my car this week (BMW, 2005 manufacuture, 320D) and went to building 64 (experts). They were delightfully polite, and after a short conversation (in my best Deutsch), they looked at my car, confirmed my automatic/daylight lights ("auto switch") were valid/okay. Took 10 minutes total.
Worth a visit IMHO - if unsure - and in the near vicinity of a local Strassenverkehrsamt in CH.

Well, I have been turning my lights on during the day since the 1st of Jan. and it is a royal pain in the neck because I have an old Defender and nothing is automatic.
I foresee many, many dead batteries in my future. However, I am a good citizen and I will carry on.
But, I must say, I was on the autoroute today and every third car did not have their lights on, which really chapped my arse.

This works for the Discovery: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic103426.html
It took me less than 5mins to do that AND refit a piece of exterior door trim on the 328. |

Just phoned a local BMW dealer. Yes they can set the daytime lights function in the software so that the headlights are always on (except when the ignition off/key removed). Cost SFr 120-150... ouch.
(EDIT) I have just ordered one of these reprogrammers http://www.xcar360.com/bmw-scanner-1...scan-tool.html
(BMW E46 3 series 2003) and I can hopefully just use it to connect the car to the PC and select the EU daytime lights option. Cost was US 30 delivered to CH, and can also get to see any error messages etc.
Looked at the AEG LED lights mentioned earlier in the thread but they are just lights - needs some relay etc to control when they are on releted to headlights being on as I understand.

Not had time to fit them though hopefully next week.
