Police in Fribourg have said they will give everyone two month's grace to get used to the idea before they start clamping down.
Still a stupid idea IMHO.

Maybe they'll start giving friendly warnings about the lights rule when they stop people for not having their new vignettes next week. |

But seriously if you can't spot a moving car in daylight without some form of lighting on the car then I'd suggest an opticians. Immediately. | | | | | Actually dark colored cars can blend in to certain types of scenery and if the day time weather is grey and raining if can be quite difficult at a first glance when pulling out of a junction etc.

I'm neither here nor there about having lights on in broad daylight. My car has a setting that switches them on when I start the car so it's not a biggy for me.
Now, if they could just start enforcing rules about people who fire up the retina-burning rear fog-light when there is the merest sniff of a mist in the air, that would do me just fine.

A good idea would be for all female drivers to keep their lights on, only then we could avoid at all cost.

The OH pointed out something interesting (or not depending on your viewpoint ) this evening when he got home from work. He'd passed one of the Nissan Leaf electric cars on the motorway and realised that by having to have their lights on all the time, it's effectively reducing their driving range before needing to be charged again. So much for helping the environment and reducing costs.

And a reminder they'll probably be out around the freeway entrances near Bern, ready to catch you for both headlights and vignette. | This user would like to thank 3Wishes for this useful post: | |

I'll add to that:
- exit A3 at Pfäffikon SZ (direction south)
- exit A2 at Lugano Sud (direction south)
- entry A2 at Chiasso (around the back of that shopping centre that nobody visits, direction north)

Just had a thought (yeah I actually do sometimes ). Does this law also apply to cyclists? Bicycles I mean. Because I would have thought it would help motorists see them so ought to be mandatory for them too.

Was looking at purchasing an Opel Agila. Went to take it for a test drive and the dealer reminded me to turn the lights on. I looked at him like he was mad.
Apparently this is the only model from Opel which is not equipped with daytime running lights. That is just an invitation for a ticket.
A few dealers selling the Agila have already modified it to confirm with the new law.
But the dealer where I test drove the Agila told me I have to pay the cost of switching the lights to run automatically during the day. Apparently there are two options, one costs chf 350, one costs chf 700.

I think I posted similar, earlier in this thread.
